Do you need to/ will you rehearse before the May/June gigs or do you just wing it? Of course we'll rehearse! Jeezo. SB

Does the band personally pick the artists for the tour posters or is that handled by management? Some of my all time favorite gigposters are for mogwai shows (aaron horkey, todd slater, chuck sperry) We have a guy who arranges them for us. Loads of them have been amazing so I think he's been doing a great job. SB

1. Would the band consider doing one or two 'fanclub'-type shows with a set-list voted for by us? I know there has been some chat about that on these boards before. That's possible I suppose. Consider this answer vague. 2. Any chance of doing another show on a scottish island like all those years ago on bute? I'd absolutely love to. That cost us a fortune though and we try and avoid money losing ventures if at all possible these days being grown up and all. SB cheers.

I know you aren't keen on working with guest vocalists these days but are there any female vocalists you'd like to record with? (Beth Gibbons?!) There are loads of loads of amazing female singers i think of but we don't have any plans along those lines right now. SB

Have you ever heard of Italian minimalistic pianist/composer Ludovico Einaudi. If yes, what is your take on him? I know he is very much open to interesting music collabs. His music is very nice though we already have a pretty good piano player. SB

Welcome back to the thread, Stuart.
How often do you have to have your Twin re-tubed? I ask because mine was re-tubed and serviced a few weeks ago and seems to be making intermittent crackling noises.

Hi ! I have a lot of questions.... of course 1/ on the musicradar video explaining your live gear, we can see that John uses several distorsion pedals. Is he using them sometimes together? Is this how you get this fantastic guitar sound in San pedro @2.26mn? I have no idea though I'm sure ajohn has a few distortions on at once at points of that song. 2/ in "jim morrisson" it looks like Barry doesn't play the piano gimmick, how is it done? that's obviously a recorded track, but who decides when it starts playing? is it some kind of computer punch in? There are some sequenced parts on that song live run through a laptop. 3/ could you give some advice about which vocoder to choose? yours seem ok It's a 70s Korg one. I'm not sure of the exact model. 4/ how come aren't there any official mogwai fan club? We've never considered it. I think it might be like a really crap cult. 5/ all mogwai shows I went to ended in a big and unbelievable wall of sound, how do you get this? are you turning all your effects on? Pretty much! Cheers SB Thanks a lot if you take time to answer all of this and thanks a million time for your music which is bloddy brilliant !! cheers!

monsieur braithwaite: as per usual i will be catching the 'travelling mogwai revue' as it rolls through my part of northern america (toronto, pontiac, chicago). i was wondering what an old lad such as myself has to do to convince yr band to dust off 'superheroes of BMX' for a spell. i would have no qualms sacrificing a canary or gerbil in a godless ceremony if need be. jokes of course, but i'm sure i'm not alone in my desire to hear this long elusive classic. cheers!

Stuart,
You guys are playing San Diego on June 3rd. Is there anyway to add a show in Arizona before the Atlanta date on June 8th? Mogwai haven't been to AZ for a while!
Thanks,
Joey

Stuart:
First, I have to thank you because your music has been an essential part of the improvements I have been doing with my life in the last year. Traveled from Mexico to Austin last year to see you play and it made my year much better. Thank you very much.
Now for my question. There's this clip of Robert Smith talking about how amazing your music is and I wonder if there has been other artists that have approached you and praised your music? Any that you feel proud of? Any weird ones?
Alex

Hi Stuart.
I think the 2011 shows have been a real step forward for you, really great to have sets that are hanging on a solid raft of brilliant newer songs - has been a great time to be a fan. Sort of related question;
Does it fruestrate you to see other bands splitting up and reforming for mega-bucks, when you have done the less cybnical thing and just carried on? Must be tempting to "split up" between records and then "get back together" a bit later to coin it in?
Sub-question; Can you think of a single band who you truly believe have split up for good? Smiths always get raised, but Morrissey is a greedy and contrary chap so I reckon there is a tiny chance. Fugazi are on hiatus, but it doesn't seem ridiculous. Ride? Bell doesn't need the cash?
(no bands with dead people allowed - albeit I see Queen are touring again so who on earth knows)
Thanks
SQJ

Hi all, Question first of all guys. There is not much you have not achieved as a band, so what burning musical ambitions are still out there for you? Any town/city/venue still to be played? Any collaborations still to be realised? Fancy playing Clydebank town hall? (Sorry, wishful dreaming on my part!!) Finally, i tweeted (Mogwaibhoy) the idea of doing a "live" forum with you guys sometime in the future, . We surely must be able to get you guys together for a night? Hope this idea appeals to you. Many thanks for years of simply stunning musical moments. A day without listening to your music is a day i,m no longer around, thanks guys.

To achieve the guitar sound at the beginning of Helicon 1 and Tracy, what kind of guitar pedal/pedals do I need to use?

To achieve the guitar sound at the beginning of Helicon 1 and Tracy, what kind of guitar pedal/pedals do I need to use? I'll take a stab at this one. Fairly short delay, with fairly high feedback. Probably some reverb. Fret the note you want to play with your index or middle finger on your right hand (if you play right handed) or left hand (if you play left handed), and wiggle the string. Like the start of this video... I'm guessing from the obligatory pedal shot around 3:20 that it's some saved setting on the Boss DD-20. Stuart does this in the quiet bit of MFS too...

Hi Stuart, I have a few questions if that's OK: 1. Whose (very cool) idea was it to sample noises from "Electroplankton" in Kings Meadow? 2. Did you ever have any luck recovering that stolen gear? 3. Does my username make you hungry?

Hi Stuart, a few ATP related questions for you- 1. Is the Saturday line up complete? 2. If not, any chance you could convince Part chimp to play? 3. Failing that, Hey Colossus? 4. Are you going to either the Friday or Sunday?
Cheers.

Are Part Chimp still around? Sent from my GT-I8150 using ProBoards Yes but for how long seems unclear. I believe (but don't quote me on this) that there's at least one further release to come - they were certainly playing new and unreleased tracks last autumn.

I have just contributed a wee bit to the Hudson River Project via Kickstarter. Which made me think - what if that same approach/model/website were to be applied to a Scottish island gig? As in we all pledge a certain amount... I've no idea of the economics of such things... insurance...deposits... could we all share the burden so it wasn't a loss-maker? Anyway, I just thought I'd suggest it. I would LOVE to go to such an event.

I'd be all over a show like that - especially if it was a fan voted on setlist (voted on by those who cough up the dough!)

If Mogwai set up a Kickstarter project for this, it'd be funded in a heartbeat.
Ditto the recording/mixing/mastering/manufacturing/promotion of a new album.
Because it would represent good value for money.

Hey Stuart - Long time fan! Can't wait to see you guys again in LA and San Diego in June! It will be the third time in four years I will hit up both shows!
What is the band's thought process in choosing songs for a tour? For instance, my favorite Mogwai song is Superheroes of BMX. In 2007, the band revived it and played it at a bunch of shows. However, it has not been seen since. What inspires the band to dust off long-ignored tracks for a tour or a run of shows? I would love to know the setlist creation process. If you ever decide to dust of Superheroes again, feel free to do so in LA and/or San Diego!
Also, I am a frequent attendee of Coachella. I have been missing the band's presence at the festival. You guys haven't been on the lineup since 2006. Has Goldenvoice not asked you back? I know you do shows with them every time you are in LA, so I am hoping that they still have you on their list of bands they frequently ask. I know scheduling might be a concern, but there have been a couple of years where it seems it could have worked.
Thanks so much, Stuart! I am really looking forward to your shows in June.
