I'm still holding out for sideshows. The lineup for Harvest festival looks great, but I can't blame sales for being sluggish. There are just way too many festivals in Australia and come November everybody already has festival fatigue.
I know it's the easy option for international bands, all of whom have to come a long way. They can just turn up and play the gig without having to organise anything else.
To be honest when I see Mogwai I want to just see them with other Mogwai fans and not with 16 year old girls off their nut. Not that the Harvest festival looks like it will attract that kind of crowd. But if Mogwai are only going to play the festival in Brisbane, can't say that I'm overly disappointed that I unknowingly booked my flight to Spain on the same day. Don't see why if European and American cities can have their own shows, Australian ones can't.

Here's a short recaption of last nights show at the Visions festival in Dortmund, Germany:
The band seemed to have no desire to waste any time on the silly hop on and off the stage encore game, as they hammered out a 12-piece-80-minutes set without leaving the stage for a single second. No less than 4 of those were with vocals.
There was a small technical glitch at the start of Werewolf which seemed to be caused by Stuarts' guitar. Quickly the Gibson was traded for a Telecaster and a second try was succesful. Very nice setlist, no real surprises but the skill in how the tunes were played more than made up for it. Especially the sudden wall of sound in the 3rd act of Mogwai Fear Satan was the most brutal one from the 4 times I heard them play it. Earbruisingly loud. A beast!
The Dortmund crowd seemed quite mellow: There was some movement in the front, but besides me and my friend going completely apeshit in the back there was nothing more than some headnodding going on. The cameraman informed me that the show (or at least a good portion of it) will be broadcast within the next 1,5 months on WDRs' Rockpalast.
Setlist:
White Noise Travel Is Dangerous Death Rays Rano Pano I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead How To Be A Werewolf 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong San Pedro I Know You Are, But What Am I? Hunted By A Freak Mogwai Fear Satan Mexican Grand Prix

Thanks jaymz82 Having seen Mogwai four times this year, there haven't been many shows where I've looked at the setlist and thought 'I'd like to have seen that' but last week's Barcelona show looks a bit special: www.youngteam.co.uk/brightlight/eng/gig281011.php

Yup, my thoughts exactly Rob. Although the Milano show comes very very close. Still hoping for a My Father My King or a Blow up your school. Which four shows did you see this year? I've seen Milan, Amsterdam, Duisburg and Dortmund

Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, End Of The Road
I'd say End Of the Road was probably the best of those, surprising considering it's an outdoor festival. Of the indoor shows, Bristol and Birmingham were both very enjoyable shows.

Still hoping for a My Father My King or a Blow up your school. You've got more chance of the former but very little chance of either, I'd guess. Are you seeing more shows this week?

Just briefly as I'm on my phone - but wanted to post that last night at Barrowland was indeed fantastic. There were some troubles with the drums (pedal?) which was an opportunity for some mogwai jokes. Didn't make a note of the setlist but highlights for me, in additional to the usual standards of ones like werewolf, were Travel is Dangerous, GSTDP, and MFS... which honestly made me shed a couple of overwhelmed happy tears. As noted on twitter - I think there is a lot of tinnitus going on this morning. My ears are still ringing, probably finished off by the ridiculous blast of MFS followed by batcat.

Sounds like a good show. First showing for George Square since Naples, 9th July.

I'm crap for remembering titles, especially with this lot. I took a picture of the setlist, but ended up with an unreadable blur! Helicon was played right before the encore break.
Yeah, the bass drum pedal was farked and Stuart was shouting for the Errors drummer to lend them his! Stuart is still shite at telling jokes. There were more laffs at his attempt to tell them, than at the jokes themselves. lol
Great gig though. Packed crowd and from what I could see, a very festive and good natured crowd. Being almost warm outside at the end made a change from the Godspeed gig at the same venue around the same time last year. It was -12°C and thick ice covered the heavy snowfall!
Great night out and a Merry Christmas (Steps) to all!

Yes as I just said to Kenny who kindly tweeted the set list - I am a hallucinating halfwit. I think I may have it muddled with San Pedro, which is ridiculous cos I run to them both on a very regular basis *hangs head in shame*... But then I see the stv reviewer said it was played... And I remember thinking 'how fitting we're on Glasgow' but I could have been thinking that wrongly during SP!

Funnily enough, I did notice one song being started with Stuart vigorously shaking his head, as if they were starting the wrong song. However, the setlist on bright light is spot on, judging by my recording. Hopefully I'll be able to share before too long.
Setlist: 01 [05:43] White Noise 02 [04:23] Travel Is Dangerous 03 [06:09] I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead 04 [03:17] Broken pedal and shite jokes 05 [05:19] Rano Pano 06 [06:52] How To Be A Werewolf 07 [06:15] Death Rays 08 [05:56] Friend Of The Night 09 [03:54] San Pedro 10 [04:58] Auto Rock 11 [08:52] New Paths to Helicon pt. 1 12 [09:10] 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong 13 [01:37] Stuart thanks... 14 [08:03] Mexican Grand Prix 15 [05:09] Encore applause 16 [04:34] Hunted By A Freak 17 [12:38] Mogwai Fear Satan 18 [07:24] Batcat

Thanks for the updates, folks.
I was hoping to be there last night, but it's a few days too close to Christmas to do a disappearing act on my family.

I packed the kids off to grandma's but the other half is a massive fan* too so we could make a trip of it.
