Been a bit slow on all this- so the EP features 4 tracks not on the main soundtrack? And is totally sold out?

"This messiah needs watching" is included both in the EP and the album but in diferent mixes. "Wizard motor" is the same track and the other two songs included in the EP I think it is not on the main album.

bleep.com/release/42017-mogwai-les-revenants-soundtrackIt’s tempting to call this the LP best yet from art rockers Mogwai. Pianist John Cummings has been shifted to the front of the mix, creating escalating loops and spooky xylophone on ‘Hungry Face’, and stepping aside for Stuart Braithwaite to hit the fuzz pedal on ‘This Messiah Needs Watching’. A “proper” Mogwai album and not just soundtrack stings, ‘Les Revenants’ shows the band can now send shivers down your spine as easy as ice water.

Just listening to the album for the first time, alongside the Marc Riley session and the demos from the Canal+ site. Not surprising to find some tracks are reprises of others in film/tv soundtracks - it sounds as though 'This Messiah Needs Watching' shares numerous similarities with 'Hungry Face'
On first play, this record sounds fantastic.

Further... There are tracks on this record which would grace albums released on Quarterstick/Touch & Go/Drag City in the 1990s This may mean nothing to some of you, but it's high praise in our house.

That looped backing track on the Canal+ site is an excerpt from a demo of Fridge Magic

Just had a listen to this and I must say I'm really impressed. Hopefully we will get to see them play a few of the songs live next time they tour. Also, 'What are they doing in Heaven today?' is the most un-mogwai like track I think i've ever heard, decent though!

Normans review: Mogwai have been hard working boys recently, with the sounds of ‘Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will’ still ringing in our ears they’ve come back with this original soundtrack for French TV zombie fest ‘Les Revenants’! All the usual ‘Gwai trademarks are here but this is a much more low key affair. I guess with a soundtrack the music has to take more of a back seat to the images onscreen. ‘Kill Jester’ though has Mogwai stamped all the way through it like a stick of Blackpool rock, Barry Burns takes the lead here with a beautiful heartbreaking piano riff and is followed up with a rumbling bassline on ‘This Messiah Needs Watching’, most of the album paints a pretty dark picture but there are a couple of uplifting moments like on ‘Special M’ which is more in line with their ‘Rock Action’ era! Mogwai really seem to have found their feet after 20 odd years in the business, they sound like true pros on this album, the guitar work is very sparse with most of the music being more keyboard/piano led but this doesn’t spoil the overall feel, it’s interesting to note that most fans of Mogwai will probably listen to this having never seen the TV show but that’s the sign of a good soundtrack when it’s just as good as a stand-alone record, and this is certainly one of those! www.normanrecords.com/records/138737

Wow! This album is nice - really really nice!
It does make me think again how great a sit down, mellow mogwai tour would be, with a string section and lush orchestration.

Paid for it. Through iTunes because I very rarely play any cd's anymore. Like the rest of planet. Tweeted to Barry on how I loved his piano playing on this album. His reply was short: "Oh you". Made a screengrab of the tv show which I can view through SVT (swedish tv) play: I think there's a bbc play for uk residents, just guessing. All of the episodes are up until the 9th of march so I have to hurry up.

Why does "The Huts" intro remind me of Portishead's "Over"? Probably pure coincidence but just a thought.
Just saw the first episode and I liked it a lot!

Bobbob - sorry nabbed your description without realising. Lush is a good word for it evidently!
In the guardian mogwai-on-zombies article it mentioned that Paul Abbot (clocking off, creator of shameless) is doing a uk version. Hope he keeps the OST

It's a very good album. "What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?" seems a bit out of place (actually sounds like something Pajo/Papa M would play), but I guess it would make sense in the TV show. I like it all, though.

Just finished the eight and last episode of season 1. You have to see it for the music but also for the story. I think Mogwai was the best choice of this kind of show. No spoilers.

I do want to see this series. I'll keep an eye out for it, as surely a British channel will show it eventually.

I'd rather see the proper series, as previous experience suggests remake into English tend to be a bit crap. There are plenty of channels nowadays, so it shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that the original series could be shown here.
