Great news, here's hoping for something a bit different. I like Mr Beast, Hawk and Hardcore.. however there's a similar sound running through them and I'm hoping for a bit of a gear-shift into new territory.

well the album is complete, according to Stuart on twitter. Barry is flying back to Berlin.
2 months to record (and I guess rehearse) - sounds like they've got it down pretty quickly to me, and hopefully it'll be out fairly soon!

more details. boxset looks great. Mogwai We're pleased to finally be able to share the details of our new studio album with you. It's called Rave Tapes and is scheduled for release on 20th January via our own Rock Action Records label for the UK & EU, Sub Pop in North America, Hostess in Japan and Spunk Records in Australia.
Rave Tapes was recorded in our Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow this year and was produced by Paul Savage with whom we've worked on the Mogwai Young Team and Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will records.
The album will be available on CD, LP, Digital and Ltd edition box set (featuring the LP itself, an exclusive 12", a book of studio photography by iconic photographer Steve Gullick shot during the recording sessions, 3 x 12" x 12" art prints, a 7" and a CD version of the album).

That Ltd edition box set has my name all over it...
Remurdered is a great preview track, the bass is killing me... and I love it! This is getting me seriously excited for the tour next year!

A nice track - really like the production on it - but it doesn't sound like it's the single. At least, I hope not....

Shipping is £10 Anyone else struggling to get this to work? It won't allow me to order unless I enter a mobile number - my mobile is 10 years old, it'll fall apart if they try sending me any of that fancy nonsense. Last time I tried, it told me I hadn't entered an email address when I clearly had. And it's probably just me, but "includes mp3 download of the album on the day of release" just doesn't cut it in 2013/2014 - if I'm paying £65 for a boxset, I want lossless downloads of all the music included in the boxset.

www.subpop.com/releases/mogwai/full_lengths/rave_tapeshas been updated with the press release. including: "Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, the 10-track album is a lustrous collection mined from the same quarry as its predecessors, wreathed in painterly textures underpinned by increasingly electronic beats. The haunted strains of Deesh channel the slow-burning ecstasy of their 2006 song “Auto Rock” (a key presence in the denouement of Michael Mann’s film of Miami Vice that year) while the guitars on which Mogwai built their reputation remain, if for the most part less overtly belligerent this time round, as evidenced by the somnambulant opener “Heard About You Last Night” and the sonic scowl of “Hexon Bogon”. With Rave Tapes, Mogwai’s mastery of sound and space is firmly at its apex." and "The release of the album will signal the beginning of a frantic year of live activity, including the group’s maiden foray into Africa."

Are we allowed to assume that the two songs on the Sub Pop bonus 7" are included in the boxset?

Being in North America, I cannot currently pre-order the box set. *sad face*
I sent SubPop an email about it, as they say they'll have them available shortly... I am honestly in love with the idea of having the book of studio photography by Steve Gullick and the artwork prints. I really hope I don't miss out on those goodies, due to my location.

Will the box set be available from independent record shops, too (Or - if absolutely necessary - from Amazon)? Or are Sandbag / Subpop the only official distribution channel?

If anyone sees tracklists for any of the bonus formats, please post them!
