Yeah I'm wondering just how different the next album will sound without him! Hoping it's not too different. why? I'm hoping for something that is quite different - with or without John. Rave Tapes for me (and I could well be in the minority) was lacking in ideas and sounded like a band stuck in a rut. At the very least I'd like a change in producer. I agree with Stuart that the tracks on Rave Tapes sound a lot better and more fully formed live: noisey.vice.com/en_uk/blog/rank-your-records-mogwai-stuart-braithwaiteDoes anyone have a list of Mogwai songs that were predominantly written by John? I think San Pedro is for someone reason. I completely agree with you. If I'm not wrong, he wrote Batcat and Gms, from the most famous mogwai songs.

as the "brightlight" realeses notes:
chocky - john cummings
folk death 95 - john cummings
wake up and go beserk - john cummings
it would have happened anyway - john cummings
'batcat' was written by john cummings.
'san pedro' was written by john cummings.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for them making new music, and not rehashing but what I meant was I hope they don't become a predominantly keyboard-sounding band or whatever with the loss of John (guitar)...that's what I was referring to.

Do you think that John leaving will have an impact on the planned Rock Action box set Stuart mentioned they were working on? That would stink!!

I don't think it'll happen, they all love loud guitars. I'm really looking forward to the next record; Rave Tapes made a clear statement and Im excited for what's to come.

New look Mogwai - sad to see John go but happy they are still a band. 20 more years ummm....i'm still really sad for the john's departure. Guys, i don't expect stuff good as the glorius old lp, "rave tapes" was the my personal, and first, disappointment about mogwai. I really hope for they next stuff...but it's hard without john, especially as live band.
