i can't make up my mind about this at all: www.redderrecords.com/summer at shatter creek (one man band Craig Gurwich) have added lyrics to Stanley Kubrick, Christmas Song and Burn Girl Prom Queen. certainly worth downloading. i think stanley k works ok, maybe a little too close to sigur ros for my tastes. christmas song doesn't work at all. the guy does himself a favour on burn girl by keeping it simple. i'm certainly curious to hear what everyone else thinks!

I fucking hate all of them. I love the simpliciity of all of the tracks on the EP and this just buggers them up. Sorry to Craig Gurwich but he shouldn't have bothered.

i didn't like them either, the vocals are overshadowing the music. but it's a great idea though.

this is possibly the worst thing ive ever heard, its not even a good idea, the vocoder on stanley kubrick is meant to act as if its a vocal line i think, these vocals are shit anyways sounds like a thom yorke wannabe.

They're not that bad, but there's really no need for it.
The guy has a decent enough voice, but I think (espec. on Stan.) that the vocals are a bit too loud in the mix. I think maybe if there was better mixing, it might sound a bit better.
Burn Girl sucks completely. He's singing over the best parts!!
I think that if there was a song that was MEANT to have lyrics on it, then this guy's voice wouldn't work that badly... but c'mon. Mogwai's an instrumental band for a reason... they don't fucking need vocals on every song to convey emotion. Burn Girl, without vox was a sweet, melancholy song... but with vox, it's overpowering and, well... pointless.
This is kind of like colorizing old, classic black & white movies. It might be "cool", but really, what's the fucking point?

I think it sounds ok to be honest, but then these aren't Mogwai songs I listen to be very often so I'm probably being far less defensive than I would be with other tracks. It does sound very Sigur Ros though, and I've never really got into them. I know someone who'll think these are far better than the originals though - she keeps telling me all my instrumental CDs need vocals on them. D'you reckon this guy would wreck an EITS album for me?
