Check out Mogwai fear Satan from 11/30/98 on the archive - sublime.
You can't go wrong with the vast majority of the recordings from 2006 on the archive. Check out a song, and if it sounds good download the show.
PS - Some of the 24-bit recordings are better than, well, they just sound fantastic. Make sure the soundcard on your computer can support 24-bit mind.

riverside 1998 is fantastic for the best, most brutal version of mogwai fear satan...it is astonishing. also, nita's hideaway 2001 (i think it's 2001) and lee's palace, toronto 2001 are fab. as is wedgewood rooms, portsmouth 2003. the first one's a radio broadcast, but the others are fantastic audience tapes. I was at that Riverside gig. My first gwai gig. Still got the stub. I'd love to get hold of the unbroadcast stuff including an encore of Summer which was actually a request from me. Me and another guy who wanted ex cowboy were both shouting out and I won, probably cos it's much shorter. I hope there is a tape of that sitting somewhere in the BBC archives and it gets out somehow.

anyone know where I can find the Ex-Cowboy Astoria 1998 track that was on that NME cd? An upload would be amazing if possible I've got that on CD if you want it. I'll upload a FLAC if you like. I think someone mentioned they have the whole gig but I assume that is an audience recording whereas this is the NME recording along with Ithica27o9 and Helicon 2 which they showed on TV.

Hey there. Please excuse my ignorance as i know nothing about recordings. All i know that you can download them onto the PC. So looking throught the lists in Trading, how can i download some of these shows. I've got several shows from Internet Archive but others that i would like aren't on there. The Royal Albert Hall for example.
I would appreciate any help.

So looking throught the lists in Trading, how can i download some of these shows. I've got several shows from Internet Archive but others that i would like aren't on there. The Royal Albert Hall for example. I would appreciate any help. Ta. Well, there's 70+ shows on the archive, which is great. Then if you want to download shows, you can check the torrent sites such as dimeadozen.org or thetradersden.org Or you can go the snail mail trading route, and exchange cds and dvds on a one to one basis. You can find lists of places to find traders on the trading page. Try db.etree.org If you don't have much to trade, you can try and look out for traders in your locale that offer b&p trades - www.etree.org/bnp/index.htmlInstructions in that thread - but it's a lot simpler than it looks. As for the RAH gig, although it was recorded, neither of those recordings circulate yet. Hope that helps, J

just wanted another update. 05/10/06 only has the npr broadcast.
we did audio + video. 2 cameras (one widescreen from above the balcony and my regular aspect from the left side on the balcony) and 24/96 audio to a 4-track recorder 1+2: was mbho mics -> sound devices mp2 -> edirol r4 3+4: was schoeps mk4v -> vms -> edirol r4 i'll track down the specifics on the model of the vms preamp and on the mbho mics
i still haven't done anything with the video aside from the raw transfer since i don't have any software that really does multi-angle video editing any good.

oh, and the 3/12/06 video is complete, if it's mine that's referenced on the list (i'm pretty sure i was the only person filming). my goal is to get all the video stuff taken care of within the next few months -- definitely before the next tour. it's so easy to get side-tracked. i'll try to put some youtube clips up at some point for people to check out. i need to figure out how to make the clips first though.. hah

i dont have a problem personally with them circulating, but my first priority as far as getting them done is getting them to the band in case they want to use the footage for whatever (like that 10th anniversary dvd? -- though maybe it can be 15th or something?). they've been very nice to let me film all of these shows. i'm sure telling the venue that it was ok for me to film, etc. was probably one of the last things simon was interested in doing an hour or two before showtime.
i really want to get a new camera before the next tour. the quality of the two different sets of footage for the DC show is pretty ridiculous. my camera doesnt handle low light situations too terribly well.

and one more suggestion re: the 'trading' section. when the equipment is listed and that source is on archive.org, why not link to the entry directly from the list?

i don't specifically remember the recording too much, but i didn't think it was one of the better ones of the run. the worst was the 03/07 show @ sonar in baltimore. that is a horrible venue. i've been there for two shows and wasn't happy with either show as far as a recording or a general show-going experience and will make no efforts whatsoever to go to anything else there.

Notes -
28/11/97 - pretty sure the one source that circulates is the same one that we talked about Rob (re: french dats).
12/3/06 - can't remember whether or not that the previous incomplete video reference was your source or not, distance. Either way, we can put your complete vid source in to show that a complete vid does exist, unless another incomplete vid does come to light.

Either way, we can put your complete vid source in to show that a complete vid does exist, unless another incomplete vid does come to light. it's possible that there is a second video source, but i woudln't count on it. there weren't many people ther e at all (small capacity) and the depth of the main part of the room was really shallow.. though i can't say 100% for sure because i was a bit preoccupied.. i filmed probably half of the show with the camera basically on my head... and then the rest of the show standing on a stool (which was wobbly), so i was a bit distracted with trying nto to fall over and also trying to keep the camera as steady as i could.

here's the set from Supersonic Festival last year. A soundboard recording is available for streaming from last.fm and i simply captured the stream as broadcast, which is a 128kb mp3 file, tracked and tagged it and here it is: www.megaupload.com/?d=JOU4IPZL

Is this of interest to anyone? I found the post on another messageboard. I don't think this recording is on archive.org. ------- BBC In Concert Series 865 Mogwai - Reading Festival 2001, Evening Session stage. 2001-08-25 This is a pre-FM rip and of commercial quality. Pleased to see my license money is used for a good cause. Tracks 01 - 4 Applause & Intro (Faded In) 02 - Sine Wave 03 - Mogwai Fear Satan 04 - You Don't Know Jesus 05 - New Path To Helicon, Part 1 06 - Ithica 07 - My Father My King My Father My King clocks in at 25 minutes. Outstanding. linkFile size is about 100MB Ripped EAC (secure), MP3 Encoded 256bps VBR Lame. You will not hear a better quality Mogwai boot - enjoy!

Rob, I finally activated a discussion board account! I'm the kid who gave you all those stats a while back. Anyways, I have at least 15 quality audio CD-Rs of Mogwai gigs. All of them came from the Internet Archive, which is where a bunch of the bootlegs wind up. The BEST one I have is from a June 2001 show at the Vartiety Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia. I don't know any info about it, but it deserves a record label. Seriously. It sounds so live, and the noise is really biting.
setlist: Sine Wave You Don't Know Jesus Helicon 2 Xmas Steps Like Herod Cody Helicon 1 Secret Pint/Punk Rock sample/2 Rights Make 1 Wrong encore: D to E My Father My King
I listen to this more than the albums at this point. "Like Herod" and "MFMK" are longer than usual. MFMK is 26 minutes long. The flacs for this are available at the Internet Archive! Y'all should check it out!

jebussabes: the link to the concert above takes me to the very spam-ish looking homepage of the filesharing network. How do I access the Mogwai gig? I'd kill for that track sequence! Lemme know if you update the link : )
