yeah, thanks for those mp3's markus. they sound really fantastic. and i 2nd the request for flac files. cheers! and thanks for your recording too gary. they all sound like ripper shows... Apart from the psychological aspect of owning a "lossless" copy of the show: I doubt that you will hear any difference from the mp3 version, unless, of course, you are a dog or a bat(cat). ;-) Lame-encoded mp3s with >192 kbps are supposed to be "transparent" even to the ears of skilled listeners. And these are lame vbr encoded mp3s (with up to 320 kbps). I might upload the show to archive.org in 24bit flac format at some point. However, I only have the opportunity to upload the stuff when I'm at home over the weekend. Patience, please. there are at least three recordings of the Esch show, and it sounds as though all of them should be pretty great. Yes, Rob is right. At the entrance there was one of the "usual suspects" who insisted on open taping and tried to convince the security guys to let him in with his recording gear. At first they wouldn't. But finally the tour manager arrived and said it was cool. Which leads us to the question whom you must bribe... er convince to get soundboard access at a Mogwai show. Guys, I'd be open for one or two shows in early 2009. Just give me a shout. ;-) As for the technical aspects of a 24bit/48kHz flac conversion: The standard settings (e.g. in foobar2000 and other front ends for flac) seem to lead to corrupted files. If, however, I'm converting the original wavs from the shell prompt with the options "--channels=2 --bps=24 --sample-rate=48000" enabled, it works. Any other command line parameters I would have to consider?

(It took me four attempts to upload "Like Herod" because of the huge file size and some random timeouts of the ftp server.) You all probably know you can't burn a 24bit recording to CD without having to downsample the whole thing to 16bit/44.1kHz first, don't you?

Is this of interest to anyone? I found the post on another messageboard. I don't think this recording is on archive.org. ------- BBC In Concert Series 865 Mogwai - Reading Festival 2001, Evening Session stage. 2001-08-25 This is a pre-FM rip and of commercial quality. Pleased to see my license money is used for a good cause. Tracks 01 - 4 Applause & Intro (Faded In) 02 - Sine Wave 03 - Mogwai Fear Satan 04 - You Don't Know Jesus 05 - New Path To Helicon, Part 1 06 - Ithica 07 - My Father My King My Father My King clocks in at 25 minutes. Outstanding. linkFile size is about 100MB Ripped EAC (secure), MP3 Encoded 256bps VBR Lame. You will not hear a better quality Mogwai boot - enjoy! This looks extremely tasty. Is there any chance you could re-upload it jebus?

Rob, I finally activated a discussion board account! I'm the kid who gave you all those stats a while back. Anyways, I have at least 15 quality audio CD-Rs of Mogwai gigs. All of them came from the Internet Archive, which is where a bunch of the bootlegs wind up. The BEST one I have is from a June 2001 show at the Vartiety Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia. I don't know any info about it, but it deserves a record label. Seriously. It sounds so live, and the noise is really biting. setlist: Sine Wave You Don't Know Jesus Helicon 2 Xmas Steps Like Herod Cody Helicon 1 Secret Pint/Punk Rock sample/2 Rights Make 1 Wrong encore: D to E My Father My King I listen to this more than the albums at this point. "Like Herod" and "MFMK" are longer than usual. MFMK is 26 minutes long. The flacs for this are available at the Internet Archive! Y'all should check it out! This show is incredible, Thanks for the heads up. Like Herod is fucking evil.

2 songs from the 1997 highbury garage show have been broadcast on BBC on dec 29th. www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=230098BBC says the tracks are mogwai fear satan and stereo dee but seeing as fear satan wasn't aplayed, it appears to be summer instead.

so the japanese show was broadcast and captured digitally? I have no idea if it was recorded from dvb-s, dvb-c or dvb-t. However, it's clearly from a digital source. I got it from a German DVD trader a couple of months ago. Also, if you type in Mogwai Studio Coast on youtube, 2 rights and Glasgow MS are on there.
As im technologically (and technically) an idiot, can someone explain / point me in the direction of how to play FLAC files, my PC doesn't recognise the file extension
