i'm not going to start a hundred "favorite?" threads... but... do you have a favorite song? this being a mogwai forum and all but i have to say that mine is "helicon 1". it maybe sounds like an easy song to people who are not into mogwai but there are plenty of layers. i just think it's perfect, it deserves to be eight minutes long otherwise it doesn't work. the version on "ten rapid" doesn't do the song any justice. anyway, what's yours?

I'm with you with 'Helicon 1'. The version on 'Government Commissions' does the track justice, and no live set is complete without it (in my opinion!). My crusade to get more folk into the 'Gwai usually starts with either 'Ten Rapid' or 'Govnt...', so either way 'Helicon 1' is passed on in the early stages

My favorite song is probably the Ten Rapid version of Summer.

I wouldn't call Helicon 1 or most of the other Mogwai tracks songs, 'cause they're all primarily instrumental. My favourite tracks are the MYT versions of Long Way and Fear Satan, The GC version of Helicon 1, and My Father My King. That's a lot of favourites, I know...

Dont think I could pick one song, even more than one song as it changes so often. Anyway heres what ive been playing and therefore liking over the past 3 months... www.last.fm/user/gregor21/charts?rangetype=3month&subtype=tracksha infact looking at that it would be safe to say most of them wouldnt be in my top 10 of all time

i'm with thom, long way and fear satan would be my favourite songs, but i do prefer the live versions of long way to the album version - specifically the 2006 englewood version with the intro.... i know u are but what am i would probly come in a close 3rd.
as for non-mogwai tunes, i'd have to pick sue's last ride by the dirty three and all over the world by the pixies.

I don't think I can really answer this one. I have different favourite songs depending on my mood, location, all sorts of things.
"Helicon 1" and "Ratts of the Capital" are certainly among the many songs I return to time and again. There was a time when I was constantly playing "New Your Avenue Bridge" by Royal truz, and while it's still a great song, I probably haven't played it for at least five years. Same sort of thing goes for my early musical experiences - OMD, Ultravox, The Human League, Fuzzbox (don't laugh!!). Are my feelings for today's music any different for those of my youth? I hope not, but maybe the current stuff gets the heavier rotation purely because it's current.
Good topic, this. Pity it's so damn tough to answer!!

Ratts of the Capital (which sadly seems to have dropped off the live repertoire of late)
Quite possibly Mogwai's best effort in my book...

We allegedly have high musical compatibility. I forgot to mention the GC version of "Like Herod". It is brutal.

Favorite overall song would be Storm by Godspeed - never gets old. Mogwai track? So many to choose from. Yes I am a long way from home is up there. I'd have to add Jim Morrison, which since hearing live has gone up a level on my kick arse barometer. Special mention goes to super heroes of BMX, now you're taken, stop coming to my house, Stanley Kubric and... see - too many to choose from.
