Didn't think, and certainly wasn't hoping, that Death Rays was gonna be the least played track off the new album, oh well, that might still change. Best song on album IMO. Rather hear it than say Friend of the night. Agreed on this. It'd be a real shame for tracks from the new album to be disappearing already.

Too Raging gets its live debut.
Tokyo - 2nd Feb
The new album, in order then Christmas Steps Killing All The Flies Mogwai Fear Satan
encore: 2 Rights Batcat
I'd have paid good money to see that.

That a righteous setlist indeed. Though the recent shows were great, I could have done with a bit of that.

thats quite a setlist. very impressive. i wonder what the band thought of it? will be curious to see if it'll become the standard.
now all we need is a recording of one of the scotland/japan dates to surface.

will be curious to see if it'll become the standard. Unfortunately, outside of japan, most audiences are probably too impatient to sit through a new album from start to finish. Mogwai need to baby-sit and placate the Western audiences and their Western attention spans. I'd dig on that set though! Absolutely ecstatic for Edinburgh, just hoping I can find my way in ....

Maybe, but ... are there really any "casual" Mogwai fans at their concerts? Or new Mogwai fans? I would think that 90% of people at a Mogwai show are pretty hardcore fans already, no? That being said I wouldnt expect it to become the standard, but I do think they should consider doing it again for some of the bigger markets over here (Toronto hint hint)

That's certainly not the case in the UK. Mogwai haven't done more than four consecutive dates here since the start of 2006, and the short runs of dates they have played have mostly been in big venues. The conversations I overheard around me at Hammersmth Apollo in 2008, for example, were mainly people seeing the band for the first time.

Yes, I would've paid good Yen to see either of those nights, but since the Euro dates are likely to be like the 3rd, I'd say that's a f**king cracking setlist - gah, no "Death Rays", but otherwise I'd be well happy with that.

Its great to hear but it is surprising - Maybe they would be long time fans where the band just hasnt played for a while? I guess I could see wanting a more balanced setlist in that case. Like I said, in markets that are well served I think the band could certainly get more ambitious and be well received for it.

I find the opposite - I'm always amazed by the fact noone at Mogwai gigs seems to ever have seen them before, or, let;s be honest (and I'm talking about UK gigs here) give a shit about the band playing. Apart from the Royal Albert Hall show I've always thought the crowds Mogwai play to in the UK are terrible - full of absolute tossers. People will probbaly disagree with me, but there we go.

Had originally meant to go to the Copenhagen gig on the 30rd of march. But can't go due to personal reasons. On the other hand have I seen them six times since 2001 so it's not a big deal. I'm just a wee gutted since the new album seems to be their strongest effort to date. I've only heard "Rano Pano" and will hear the rest on the 14th. I hope to seem them later this year or some other time. Wish everyone here who goes to see them live a grand old time. Cheers.

I disagree. There's certainly an element of tossers at the big shows, but they're at every big show. There is an element of tossers at EVERY gig - big or small - too many people with free tickets / too much disposable income and only go along to stand at the front and talk to their empty-headed friends. Sometimes they choose to stand next to / in front of me. Thankfully, they didn't stand next to me last week. I feel better for getting that one out.

I've got 2 tickets I'd like to sell for the HVM Institute, Birmingham gig.
I'm mildly retarded and bought these tickets in a rush thinking they were for the HMV place in Edinburgh.
On that note if anyone wants to get rid of tickets for Edinburgh on 21st, please let me know!

I'm posting again to state that if anyone has a spare ticket for the Hoxton gig on Wednesday that they'd like to be used I will gladly snap it up, even if it's a last minute thing as I work in central London. PM me.

I have two tickets to see Mogwai at Manchester Academy on 26th Feb. Their face value is twenty pounds each. I was really looking forward to this but my son has organised his joint 18th on this date despite his birthday being the 3rd!
*****TWO FOR ONE OFFER****
If you can get within 20 miles of Blackburn I can hand over face to face. PM me if you are interested.

Hi all,
Just wondering if everybody has received their tickets for the London/Oxford shows yet? I bought my tickets back in July in the Sandbag pre-sale, but nothing has turned up. Keeping fingers crossed that the rest of you are also still waiting....
Cheers, Gary

Altho I must admit I am starting to get a bit concerned. Probably give them a ring at the start of next week if nothing turns up.

No updates from last night in Belfast? The only setlist I've had sent to me was from a guy who freely admitted he'd had too much to drink. Looks like last night was Luke Sutherland's first show? He's in the photos, anyway, and I haven't seen him mentioned in any of the other reports.
