What's your most brutal memory of "My father my king" live? I've come across this clip of a 2001 version of "MFMK" which sounds like Motorhead mixed with MBV. Is there also a record of the longest version of MFMK as well? The only version I've heard was probably 25 minutes long. Didn't use earplugs.

The RAH gig was mad, I went there quite blasé about how loud it could possibly be, and I was wrong!

www.youngteam.co.uk/brightlight/eng/gig250301.phpThe only time I had to leave a Mogwai show early - MFMK was simply too loud. The squealing make it feel like my ears were folding inside my head, much the same way your boys pull up inside when it gets cold :-)

Never had the pleasure to experience the eardrumtorture of MFMK in real life, but I will never forget watching the montreux fest broadcast, being in awe by this masterpiece. Especially the Son House sample at the end made that one a gem.

Probably this one: www.youngteam.co.uk/brightlight/eng/gig101101.phpVery very loud. All the monitors were turned to face the audience and the guitar straps were hooked over the amps and it was just very very loud, I literally couldn't hear myself shout. I have a sign that I got off the venue's wall after to the effect of "tonight's show involves strobe lighting and very high volume levels"...

Definitely that one: www.youngteam.co.uk/brightlight/eng/gig171101.phpThe whole gig was actually ridiculously loud, far too much... I went with a lot of 'first time Mogwai gig people'. Pretty shocked, I remember trying to shove tissue in my ears as it was all I had. Now being older I actually find it ridiculous. 2001 was notoriously their loudest tour. I crazy love loud but that was just too much. I remember that sound engineer guy who kinda fucked up the Cafe de la danse gig the same year being there trying to push it up and up...
