I think the objection is largely coming from the tone of your smug and self satisfied posts.
This happens every time a new album is released. Someone comes up and says this one is terrible, that the band has lost it etc. Whenever I hear the record I never agree. Let's wait eh?

So every time someone criticises your favourite band, you're eventually and always reconfirmed in your fandom. I remember that kind of oblivious certainty, and I last felt it when I was around 15 years old. How old are you?

As eloquent as ever, Rob..Trying to have a serious, non-fanboy discussion on this board is like trying to get Tea Party activists in my home state of the US to consider single-payer healthcare. The odds are stacked against you, your interlocutors are absolutely set in their ideology, and you sense that you're dealing mostly with balding, averagely educated, mostly inarticulate middle class white men in their 30s and 40s who are clinging desperately to a shibboleth while the world whips up a storm outside. A dramatic example for such a paltry audience, perhaps, but if the shoe fits... Try and experience something new every day, guys.

Despite all this I'm looking forward to hearing Rave Tapes. The last few Mogwai albums, for me at least, have taken time to adjust to which in the end is a great thing. 'The Hawk is Howling' didnt grab me first few listens and now it might be one of my favourites (same with Hardcore). Sorry if that sounds 'Fanboy' but after many years- they know what they are doing and I trust they'll deliver as always.

I thought we were discussing your negative reaction to the new Mogwai album, not the physical/social characteristics of the sort of person who's sufficiently bothered about Mogwai to post on this forum? I notice you're not bothering to respond to several questions I asked you in earlier posts regarding your negative response to the new Mogwai album. I'm with brash - I'm looking forward to hearing it, and I'll make up my mind when I've done so.

Seeing as I am someone, who is regularly sent album for review, well before their intended release dates, I find it extremely unprofessional to put up such a review/opinions this early in the game.
Your average person is not privy to the music at this point, and therefore have nothing they can really compare to in order to make any helpful comments. So coming here and basically dragging the band through the mud, is just not going to get any positive response.
Maybe when the album comes out, we'll be able to discuss this in a more civilized manner.
Being someone who is just as much a fan if Mogwai's early work, as their most recent, I look forward to hearing Rave Tapes. I like watching the band progress in their sound. Being a band for as long as they have, if they had continued making the same type if music, Sent from my GT-S7560M using proboards

Is now the time to note that, in the midst of "clinging desperately to a shibboleth while the world whips up a storm outside", I/we neglected a whole page back to congratulate Ryan on the impending birth of his child?
Now there's something worth getting worked up about.

Thanks guys! In fact, she arrived unexpectedly this past Sunday. Five weeks ahead of time but things are going swimmingly. Her name is Miyako, and she is beautiful. These past couple of days have been a whirlwind. Anyway, I asked Miyako, and she is also confident that Mogwai will deliver a record that lives up to their usual lofty standard. She also expects that it will be of sufficient nuance and subtlety that it will probably take a number of listens to fully appreciate.
I had to look up the word 'shibboleth'. I can't right now think of a concept I relate less to than that.

Congratulations Ryan and welcome to the world Miyako (I'm going to wait to make up my mind on RaveTapes, I've certainly found remurdered to be a grower, and better when you can give it your full attention with the bass whacked up)

I don't like the new band logo much. Still to hear the LP other than Remurdered. Quite happy to wait until January.

I heard from some top guy that the album blows so I'm going to probably skip this one.

I like it. Sort of this "Sine Wave meets Hunted By A Freak" vibe. A good, chill, closing track for the album.

I really like it - glad the album has a mellow closer, as the last few albums have had a pattern of closing with belters. Between this and 'Remurdered' the production seems very clean, maybe thats just me

Loved it. Both the song and the video. I wonder if they're going to star in a video like they did in the "Summer" video?

Managed to get a copy of the promo CD with edited versions of "The Lord is Out of Control" and "Remurdered". Both are very good.

^^^What is the purpose of these edits? Not being sarcastic, actually interested, is it like a 'radio edit' for brevity, or something else?
Also, having now seen it now, that boxed set is so great looking I may have to eat my words and grab one. Hey Tiff, if you've ordered it already, how much was the shipping to Canada via the Sub Pop site?? That thing is downright sexy.

Ryan - the whole thing, taxes and shipping in, came to $118.65. I got the option without the t-shirt though, as that added another $20 -$30 (and I'll probably be picking up a tee at the show in May anyway).
