Live dates to be announced soon, I need some Mogwai on my 2016 wall planner to look forward to, though tbh there a little bit of me still bruised after John's departure if you know what I mean? Spoke to Stuart via Twitter, he said that they'll not be many dates re the Atomic Release/Film Showing........

Forgive my negativity but the forthcoming release of 'Atomic' and the subsequent accompanying tour seems to me to have fallen flat on the forum. I don't know whether that's down to the news of John's departure or the lack of live dates in the UK so far to highlight an album release in six weeks' time. But there appears to be a sense of apathy on the forum about where the band is at and where it's going. Maybe that's harsh, I don't know. It's certainly not meant to be overly critical, it's just an observation about the quietness of everything. The board is relatively silent right now when normally, in my view, it would be lively with anticipation and hope. For me personally I really enjoyed the 'Atomic' soundtrack when it was aired last year by the BBC so I'm looking forward to its release in April and hopefully catching a live gig in London to hear it properly. The 'U-235' track is highly impressive, although I'd class 'Ether' alongside 'Simon Ferocious' as one to forget, and there was much better material heard by my ears when the 'Atomic' documentary was on the telly. It's been a long time since an album release so looking forward to 1 April...

"I don't know whether that's down to the news of John's departure" "But there appears to be a sense of apathy on the forum about where the band is at and where it's going". .. I'm still really sad about the john's departure and rave tapes and hardcore weren't in my favourite music list. I think that "atomic" is a rellay good soundtrack, but in the fact i'm not really excited for it beacause of i heard it long time ago.

they are an excellent band..the recent great soundtracks (les revenants and atomic too) confirmed that, but the real magic of mogwai's sound is a little bit over...i don't believe in another wonderful decade as Young team to Hackw is howling

I'm more than looking forward to the new soundtrack album, but will be equally excited about the first "post-John" material when that happens (hopefully later in the year).

Anyone who ordered their copy as soon as it was announced may have missed that there's also a limited double version on orange vinyl available for preorder from the usual independents.

I suppose I'm viewing it the same as the other soundtrack LPs - I am expecting it to have some brilliant songs that I'll love but it's all from the same palette if you know what I mean.... not as diverse as an album album. I would love it if the Revenants s2 songs were released, wonder if there's any chance of that...?

The 'Atomic' track 'Bitterness Centrifuge' is utterly superb. There are a whole bunch of websites that you can find it on. The first 60 seconds are, for me, as powerful as it gets.
Separately, the latest edition of 'Uncut' has Mogwai's 'Ether' from 'Atomic' as part of its usual monthly CD giveaway.
An underwhelming song in my view, I'm sorry to say, but the previously released 'U-235' is excellent and 'Bitterness Centrifuge' alone will be worth the price of snapping up 'Atomic' next week.
Bring it on/can't wait.

Yes indeed, a fantastic addition to the Mogwai catalogue, so many highlights across the album - another step forward in their musical evolution, whilst subtly referencing their past output. Thumbs up from me!

Had a listen to it today, absolutely love it. It's not quite as good as the Zidane Soundtrack but i'm biased when it comes to that! Still need to buy the vinyl though!Gonna maybe order it just now.

I've been listening to it quite a bit in the last week and I'm really liking it. I don't know any of the song titles to pick any favs, but I think this record is very strong. Very impressed to be honest, and a return to form after a few rough years imo. One thing I really like is the fact there's no vocals at all. Not sure why this particularly has made such an impression on me, but I just feel that this set of songs needs to be sans-lyrics, so very happy to hear none snuck in!

Yeah, I'm really digging this album. In fact, I wasn't so hot on Ether or U-235 when they were released beforehand but now in the context of the whole album I like them both.
SCRAM is like the best Boards of Canada song to be released since Geogaddi!

yeah that is strange. Although I'm not surprised if John didn't have anything to do with Atomic.
Mogwai are currently doing a Guardian Q&A and they mentioned recording new songs for their new LP at the end of the year, interestingly with Dave Fridmann, rather than Paul Savage. For me that's a good thing.
