As im technologically (and technically) an idiot, can someone explain / point me in the direction of how to play FLAC files, my PC doesn't recognise the file extension Download Foobar 2000 it plays just about anything and it is a lot faster than winamp:)

Foobar has a much cleaner and simpler interface as well. I can barely read what most of the text on Winamp says.

this show is rather good. and not sure i've ever heard a quieter ending to a mogwai gig. the end of fear satan is positively lullabyish.

i've uploaded a show to dime. i've had this for a few years. thought it was widely circulated, but it appears thats not the case. www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=234382Mogwai Black Session, Studio 105, Paris, France 1998-02-23 Lineage: FM > ? > cd-r (unknown gen) > EAC (secure) > wav > Traders Little Helper > flac > you Setlist: 01. Ex-Cowboy 02. Christmas Steps 03. New Paths To Helicon Part i 04. New Paths To Helicon Part ii 05. Summer 06. Honey 07. Like Herod Notes: A nice set with early quick versions of christmas steps and helicon 1. Also included is their cover of the spaceman 3 tune, honey. Edits between all the tracks. I assume it wasn't broadcast with these edits, maybe some vioceovers were deleted. enjoy, einzack (2009-02-01)

Bernard Lenoir (the French counterpart of John Peel) has the habit of talking during France Inter's black sessions and live broadcasts (e.g. La Route du Rock 2006). I admit this can be quite annoying if one doesn't speak French - but generally his remarks are substantiated. It's like listening to a football match on the radio. Sometimes this can be more gripping than watching the very same event on TV.
Sadly, France Inter isn't broadcast via digital satellite anymore but I can still receive it via regular FM where I live.

last night's Nantes show is on the Archive: www-tracey.archive.org/details/mogwai2009-01-31.okmIIr-s.flac24there must be a way to automate downloading a series of files form the same site - anyone got any suggestions? having to grab two files at a time and then come back to start more running is a pain in the arse.

Does anyone know where I can grab that 2/14/09 sbd show? There isn't anywhere you can 'grab' it. The 'known' recordings on the list aren't necessarily circulating recordings.

oh.. some random crap that somehow i missed giving you for the recordings page. for 07/23/04 video of the whole show (minus the first song) and 08/05/04 (pittsburgh) -- full video.
and then 09/16+17/08. the usual. schoeps ccm4->sonosax sx-m2->m1 no video of the 16th. i MIGHT have a full song or two from the 17th. i haven't checked the tape. it was on the 17th that i came to the realization that my camera was dying. there's something loose in it or something. it wasn't getting a video feed.. but i could smack it on the side and suddently it'd start working. well, by the time the show rolled around on the 17th... at the show .. same issue. smacked the camera. it'd start filming.. vibrations would then cause it to cut out again. looks like i'm out on video for a while, unfortunately.

Wow, that's a mighty good rig...... something is better than nothing... Well, despite the smiley I was being serious. I've taped about 350 gigs (excluding support bands) with an ECM-717 mic, most of them with it plugged into a TCD-D100 (before that AIWA HS-P 505, SONY MZ-R 30, AIWA AM-F70, AIWA AM-F80 and most recently a SONY PCM-M1 - which is basically a D100, too). The smiley was mostly intended for people "in the know". I guess the taper was the same who did the Japanese Tool gigs in February 07, which are really good. There are so many people around who judge recordings just by the equipment used, without ever listening to them. They think buying a Church or even Schoeps rig will automatically lead to great recordings. Well, trust me, they don't. On the other hand, give a newbie an ECM-717 and he (and you) might be in for a (positive) surprise. Anyway.......

oh, i'm fully aware that expensive gear is merely increasing the ceiling for the potential of a recording and that a lot of stuff that can make a recording good/bad actually lies out of our control.
i'll admit when there are multiple sources i am dismissive of some off the bat, i still go by what i said -- something is better than nothing. it's much better that people are out there recording, regardless of the gear than having a bunch of people complaining/whining (in some circles this is VERY common) when certain shows (the ones said people went to, of course) aren't out there.
