I'm guessing some will already know about this, but for everyone else::: (from a Chemikal Underground email bulletin - spelling cock-ups and all) "Mogwai Young Team - 10 Year Anniversary Reissue
Although it may make most of us feel a bit long in the tooth to admit it, Mogwai's incendiary debut was released 10 years ago this year and to celebrate, we've been in discussions with the band about reissuing the album with remastered tweaks, bonus tracks, new sleevenotes and rejigged artwork. Stuart, John, Martin, Dominic and Barry are currently poring over live tracks and old sessions to augment the album's original 10 tracks and we'll be looking for a release at the very beginning of 2008." I'm generally not a fan of re-issues (something about paying twice for the same thing...), so I'll be keeping a close eye on what extra material is added.

Sounds fantastic - but will there be a vinyl release?

it always annoyed me how the US jetset version was turned TAO so had 2 second gaps between every song.... a problem when you had segues....
but session tracks?? ain't that what the BBC Sessions cd was for?

but session tracks?? ain't that what the BBC Sessions cd was for? there are unreleased tracks from those sessions, and there are non-BBC sessions, and there are BBC live sets?

i realise there are more BBC sessions left, but was trying to making a smart-assed remark implying that they should have been included on the 'official' cd.
as an aside, how many non BBC sessions are there? black session from france, but any others? and i'm not talking about recorded live shows etc....

If it were me I would just stick a copy of Kicking A Dead Pig to the re-issue MYT (or MYTX as I have just this second decided to call it)
See if the pig can take any more!

Does the appearance of 'D to E' and 'I Don't Know What To Say' on Mogwai's MySpace this week give us a clue to some of the likely extras?

I think I'll hold out for the 25th anniversary edition in about 15 years time

Played MYT in the car last night on the way to see Boredoms.
One thing that's really striking is how fast some of the tracks are played in comparison to their live versions. In particular Like Herod, where the loud bit did actually make me jump because it came in so quickly.

I doubt anyone reading this will have much of a say in the matter but I'd like to make a request to the band or anyone involved with the reissue...
PLEASE PUT ANY BONUS MATERIAL ON A SECOND DISC AND NOT AT THE END OF THE ALBUM!

8 bonus tracks for the reissue... thats quite alot. will probably mean that they will be a 2nd disc as opposed to tacked on the end... but any specific insight as to the make up of the 8 extra tracks?

Taken from www.chemikal.co.uk'Young Team' Gets Tooled Up Through Remastering We've just taken receipt of the newly remastered version of 'Young Team'and it's sounding rather mighty. Not only have we improved the sound of Mogwai's 1997 debut, we've also bolstered it with an additional CD of bonus tracks including phenomenal live performances from T In The Park and Chemikal Underground's 5th Birthday Party; a BBC session version of R U Still In 2 It? featuring Aidan Moffat; a rare Spaceman 3 cover; a radio session track from WNYC and some other stuff that, well, we're not telling you about yet. We'll have a release date for you shortly but in the meantime you'll just have to wring your hands in sweaty anticpation....

For some reason, there's a link embedded in the title of that story on the CU website. It leads to a promoters website: www.pclpresents.com/index.htmlPCL being, I think, the promoters of the Indian Summer festival in Glasgow (amongst other things) Curious....

CU birthday party track must be 'Satan'? The others are on CODY.

That is a mistake Rob. PCL concerts isn't the type of company that we would ever have anything to do with.

well they wouldn't be able to release the version of helps both ways for the same reason as they couldn't release the studio version of it.... but the version of fear satan is pretty damn fine. and the t in the park contribution will likely be like herod since thats the only young team song from the set that was broadcast, however, they might include a song not broadcast i suppose.
as an aside rob, your page for the t in the park has got the setlist as summer/helicon 1/like herod whereas the version i've got is ithica instead of summer. so either you can add ithica to the setlist or replace summer with thica....
and i think i've said this before, but i think the mogwai fear satan from the riverside, newcastle show from 1998 would have been a brilliant addition to the bonus disc stuart. had you guys considered using anything from that gig?

We might use some of that show on the CODY re-issue (when we get around to it) but as far as i recall Satan from that show had a crazy flute wig out that rendered it unreleasable.

Do the unbroadcast songs from that gig exist in the BBC vaults do you know?

|
|
Post by einzack on Mar 6, 2008 5:22:20 GMT 1
well there is some definite fluteness going on in fear satan from that gig, but i wouldn't go so far as saying it is 'rendered unreleasable' but then i'm not the one making the decisions... so barry not a fan of that night then.... cause to me it's one of the most brutal versions of fear satan i've heard....
