Been reading a lot about the " Loudness War" lately and am hoping this remaster won't fall victim too much. Still, looking forward to hearing it, along with the bonus disc!

I see where you're coming from, but given Mogwai's previous willingness to say something sounds shit when it does, I'd be very surprised if it's anything less than great. It'd be interesting to find out who's done the re-mastering.

Mogwai Young Team - Remastered and Augmented by Additional Disc of Material
We told you that we had given Young Team a bit of a reworking and we weren't kidding. The original album has been remastered and tweaked and will now (and until the end of time) come to you in a 2CD format with another CD of Young Team era recordings nestling alongside the album proper. The second CD tracklisting is as follows...
1. 'Untitled' [Previously unreleased track from the Young Team sessions - summer of 1997] 2. 'I Don't Know What To Say' [From the Young Team sessions - originally released on Radio 1 Sound City CD (NME 1998)] 3. 'I Can't Remember' [originally released on 'Glasgow' compilation 7" by Plastic Cowboy 1998] 4. 'Honey' [originally released on a Spacemen 3 tribute by Rocketgirl in 1998] 5. 'Katrien (Live)' [Recorded live at Lounge Ax, Chicago 15th October, 1997] 6. 'R U Still In 2 It (Live)' [Recorded live for the Mary Anne Hobbs Show, BBC Radio 1, 28th October, 1997] 7. 'Like Herod (Live)' [Recorded live at T In The Park, Strathclyde Country Park, Summer 1997] 8. 'Summer (Priority) (Live)' [Recorded live at WNYU , New York City, 1998] 9. 'Mogwai Fear Satan (Live)' [Recorded live at Chemikal Underground's 5th Birthday Party: The Garage, Glasgow, for The John Peel Show, BBC Radio 1, 12th March, 2000]
In more good news for you vinyl enthusiasts out there, we can also confirm that this pretty magnificent package will be available (for a limited period of time) on quadruple vinyl. We say again: QUADRUPLE VINYL - extravagant? It's all this album deserves to be honest...

Three isn't it?
Woo though. And great news about the vinyl too. Can't wait to get hold of these. I hope the CD packaging is special too. Just remains to be heard what the actual remaster sounds like.

these 3 exist already, but the last one doesn't really count cause as far as i know it isn't so much that it's called 'untitled' and more so that it doesn't have a title.... 1. travels in constants 2. rock action jap bonus track 3. zidane ost bonus track and so this new one makes 4.....
yeah, i too am very interested in hearin the remaster. it's long been said by the guys that they weren't really happy with the sound of the record, so it'll be very interesting to see what they can do with a remaster.... and surely they'd have lots of input into the remaster - they wouldn't let someone do it off the cuff....surely....

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Zidane one. I also think of that as slightly different because, like you said, the other three are actually named "untitled" as in they are written as such on the record sleeve whereas the bonus track on Zidane is actually not on the tracklisting and therefore literally "untitled". If you get what I'm saying... ;D

That's steep. I wonder if it's the full RRP. I know it's 4 discs but I thought £25 max. Hopefully it'll be delightfully packaged to make it worth the readies.

I know it's 4 discs but I thought £25 max. That's what one would expect to pay for an original MYT LP, at least according to the Rare Record Price Guide...

Just want to play the devil here as I've never had any complaints with what Mogwai put out, but I hope that the remaster really is an upgrade from the original as I've heard remastered versions of songs and other albums and have been disappointed usually because remastering consists of either a tweak in volume, or blasphemously, messing with the sounds and instruments, their place in the mix, or worse still, re-recording parts. I've heard a few good remastered albums, but those ones try not to tinker with the original much. I'm a sucker anyway and would just like to have the new YT on my shelf even if I don't like it, but I'm heartened by the fact that it's not going to be a major label remaster who never have any idea. Bonus tracks and repackaging are fine, just like updating a book, but usually an album from X year should be left alone whether the artist likes it or not because it represents a memory for the listener and tells new listeners this is how it was in X year and should be appreciated for that. That said I hope listening to it shuts my mouth.

Very nice LP slipcase there but what are the two RRPs going to be and how much are Chemikal Underground going to sell them for at their shop because don't the band and label get a bigger chunk of profit that way?

You know I never even considered it could be the CD version in the photo. I just assumed it was the vinyl but it really could be either couldn't it? You're probably right though. It's definately going to be a collectors' piece too if its got a matt black cardboard cover.
Another thing I'm waiting to find out is how limited (I'm sure CU said it would be) the vinyl is going to be and whether the CD edition is going to be limited at all too.

My initial comment to Stuart was that the remaster "is louder without being too loud, and that everything seems in slightly sharper focus"
After a few plays, I'd stick by that. They've done a good job on it.

not sure if these count as new 'prices' rob, but there are prices for other countries apart from the UK on the various cdwow sites round the world. ie. $18.99 is Australia....
edit: hehehe

The reason I posted the cd-wow and hmv prices was that they're the cheapest I've seen so far. I think I'm right in saying that CD-Wow do free postage to most places, which makes them cheaper than Play for ordering from Australia?

hey rob, i actually meant the various cdwow.com sites round the world. play.com never used to post to places like NZ and Australia, whereas cdwow does. don't know whether this has changed, but yeah, cdwow.com is the one i meant...opps.
