Aside from the slipcase, is the original artwork either still the same, or included somewhere for the lp?

Glossy black box, 'Mogwai Young Team' on red background top left. The original artwork is reproduced inside as the sleeves of discs 1 and 2 (the Young Team album). Discs 3 and 4 have some b&w landscape photos and the credits on their sleeves. As I say, it's a lovely looking thing.

i downloaded it from itunes this morning and took a wee listen on "tracy". i later compared it with the original on the ipod nano. the difference is huge and very good. it's like when star wars had added special effects back in 1997. just think of what the original lacks and that the remastered adds what is missing. it feels like a new record again, if that makes any sense. i'm looking forward to the next album and "c.o.d.y." remastered in 2009.

I got my copy this morning. I'll need to have a closer listen to the remastered CD to get any sense of improved sound quality, but I'm sure it's there. I went straight to the "Appendix" disc - the extra songs are pretty damn good, and a couple of the live renditions are typically epic. Recommended, obviously.

yeah, i too think the difference is huge between the original and the remaster. yes i am a long way from home just jumps out at you from the very beginning now....it has always been a favourite of mine, but i've always preferred live versions, but not so any more now that the album versions got so much damn punch. the bass intro to like herod is phenomenal. sounds so clear - just like i'm sitting right in from of dominic in the studio. lovely. and the loud bits are perfect.
as for the bonus disc...when i first saw the tracklisting is was quite excited by the inclusion of katrien from that specific show cause the audience recording had been circulating for years and i was curious to see if it was a 'new' soundboard recording or the audience recording...when i listened and heard it was the audience i was kinda disappointed, especially with all the dropouts and whatnot there in the song. but it is a very good version. also the version of like herod is brutal. but oh so short. i've not heard a live version of like herod this short before, and while i like it alot, the quality of the recording isn't perfect...few clicks and whatnot thru the track. but very nice. am getting a bit picky here..... it's a brilliant version of r u still into it...tho would have been funny to include some of the banter from the session as it's quite hilarious. and fear satan is superb as well. a definite improvement over the version of this show thats been doing the rounds....

Katrien is one of my favourites and the reissue's live version is similarly awesome. I hope to hear it some time if they play a Young Team show in London.

I haven't received my 4xLP yet; reading these posts made it worse.

Ripped it to itunes using LAME this evening; listening to it on headphones now - and it's certainly a deeper, richer sound than the original. Waiting for that buzz when the loud bit in Like Herod kicks in...Oh YES!

where the hell do i order the 4xLP in the US from? 500 copies to go round ain't very many. I would guess that anywhere with copies won't have very many, and they won't have them yet either.

I pre-ordered mine from the Mogwai shop, but no sign of it yet. As mentioned earlier, it's probably stuck in a South London sorting office with lots of people scratching their heads looking at it and wondering what it is and what they should do with it. It'll turn up tomorrow when I'm out at which point I'll have to venture to a South London Industrial Estate™ in the arse end of nowhere to collect it. Apologies to any postal staff reading this...

Would just like to chip in and say this is a great sounding remaster. Am slightly disappointed by "I can't remember" on the Appendix disc. I was looking forward to a cd version of it, having had the 7" since it came out. Listen closely and you'll hear it's just recored from the vinyl, I could have just stuck it on me turntable again!! Other than that, well done Mogwai for a great remaster.

IS it recorded from the vinyl though? Maybe that scratchy effect is part of the master? I think you're right actually though.
Also, it's a shame about the defects on the live Katrien track. Blinding performance though so worth it.

By the way, I ripped Katrien to WAV from both the original and the remastered MYT CDs and stuck them into Goldwave to see how they've changed the loudness. img137.imageshack.us/img137/3479/ytgwavcp0.jpgThe remaster is much louder obviously but do you think that the contrast between the quiet and loud has been lessened? Also maybe the loud parts are hitting the limits as seen at 4m00s to 4m40s? I'm no expert on 'loudness' but does anybody have any views on this?

not to sound like a broken record... but seriously... i keep hearing about these 500 copies of the 4xLP that are going to be shipped to the US. but nowhere can i find exactly where i should go to order this in the US. i've visited chemical underground's site and didn't really find info on where to go to order it in the US. I read somewhere about chemical's US distributer and checked out what appeared to be their site but that looked like it hadn't been updated in some time.
am i missing something that's right in front of my face?

I don't know. However, Mogwai's Resonance shop has it for sale for £18.72 + £15 pstage to US which works out as only £4 more than us in the UK who pay £22 + £7. You can pay a little extra for recorded delivery too.

Has anyone noticed a strange 'moment' in the R U Still In 2 It live track when Aidan comed in at around 2:08. Was it edited short? I've checked a couple of alternative 'sources' and it not just my CD. I'm pretty sure it's a cut of glitch. Any thoughts?

My 4xLP finally arrived, hurrah! I've yet to listen... is the live "R U Still in 2 It" spoke (like the album version), or sung (like subsequent live versions), by Aidan?

thom, it's spoken.
chocky, they would have remastered the live tracks as well, which essentially in this instance means they just made it louder....
as for i can't remember, i'm going to have a listen to an 'alternative source' and compare....never know, might be of better quality...

finally got mine (in the States) from Amazon. the box came slightly dented (thank you US postal system) but i'm not too angry about it considering i got it for $43 shipped.

the US postal system is doing a good job with these, it seems. A friend of mine had his copy arrive having been attacked by something mechanical in a sorting office, busted corners and a hole in one side.

maybe "like herod" started to play itself without no reason and attacked the postal service employees?
i'm sorry, that was stupid.
