Well, Stuart said on AfterThePostRock to ask on here if we had any Mogwai-related questions, so here goes. The main things I'm wondering at the moment are will there be any more Scottish dates before the new EP and LP are released, apart from the Edinburgh show? Also, what can we expect from Aloha Hawaii? Spill it Plasmatron!

Spill it Plasmatron! The Edinburgh show is our only Scottish show. Of the 2 songs recorded so far as Aloha Hawaii one has loads of african sounding drums, mellotron and thumb piano and the other is in 5/4 and has noisy jazz saxophone played by James who plays in Remember Remember. I bought a toy amp for £1 at a car boot sale which i played electric guitar and bass through on both songs. SB

stuart, was the flute on fear satan "played with" at all? i ask cause a friend of mine teaches flute and she said it sounded like no flute she'd ever heard before. thought it might have been a wooden flute or that some trickery was used on it in the studio....

What is Aidan contributing to these tracks?

The flute is straight. Shona who played on it has actually gone on to become a successful musician (she was only 15 i think when she played on it). Her dad worked with my mum, we weren't normally hanging out with lassies that young! SB

looking back on it now, does it seem a little silly to you how loud you used to play shows back in the day? such as the one time you played in new zealand in '99 you set a noise record for the venue at 132dB. now you're a little older (and wiser), do you see that as a little over the top and just a little dangerous? would you consider going back to those days? and was it a conscious decision to play as loud as possible or did it just evolve by itself?

would you consider re-recording any of your songs, or even albums again? i know it's been said that you weren't that happy with how young team sounded, so has the remaster resolved that, or would you like another go at some of the tracks, like your mogwai fear satan remix?

It was on purpose. Its not something we do now but i don't regret it. Our booking agent said during the Rock Action tour that he was worried about whether people would come back and see us after we inflicted them with noise and i remember saying that it didn't do MBV any harm (he books them too). We asked the guy doing our sound on that tour to make it as loud as possible and even though it was really irresponsible it was what we were about at the time. For the record the loudest 2 bands i've ever seen were Throbbing Gristle and Pan Sonic. I love loud music! SB

No. Its probably better using your energy making new music than messing about with old shit. We wouldn't want to do the musical equivalent of that song and dance routine in Return Of The Jedi. SB

thanks for the replies stuart. have you heard the remastered soundboard recording from the gothic theatre, englewood, colorado show from may 2006? the recording has been doing the rounds for a while and many people have wondered whether you guys would consider making it an official release because of how damn good it sounds.

Your Tramway show a while back was amazingly loud; especially during Herod and Ithica; enough so to leave a lovely ringing in my ears well into the next day. Are you seriously suggesting your early shows were louder than that?! Another non-Mogwai related question, but I came and said hi to you, Stuart, after 65dos set at Sub Club last year, d'you remember? And Einzack, d'you have a link to that recording?

I remember meeting you that night. We have played shows MUCH louder than that. That gig in Auckland was unbelievably loud and there have been so many gigs where the stage has been shaking so much it has tickled my feet. In retrospect i don't think being stupidly loud added much at all but it was good fun. SB

the original soundboard recording from that show was uploaded to thetradersden.org. mixwell then did a remaster which he made available on the zomb tracker. i then reseeded it over at dimeadozen.org which is still available here: www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=103876then it was also uploaded to archive.org and can be found here: www.archive.org/details/mogwai2006-05-03.sbd.remaster.flac16so after all that, the best place to get it is from archive.org. edit: stuart, just download it from archive.org. rob got his copy from me, which i just made using the flac files i got way back when.

A nervous twit I was. Another non-Mogwai related question, but during your DJ set at the Errors thing in Stereo the other night, there was a song about 3/4 of the way through, before Metallica, with a steady 4/4 beat that was kinda quiet for a while, and then exploding into loads of noise, d'you what one I'm talking about?

Oh well. It was instrumental and pretty dance-orientated, if that helps. Listening to this live recording at the Gothic Theater is making me wonder, have you guys ever considered doing a live DVD?

I'm certain you're talking about Bright Tommorow by Fuck Buttons, I'm pretty sure it was on before metallica. ttp://www.myspace.com/fuckbuttons stuart, you got any idea what happened to connect festival? It was a solid gold line up last year but this year just fucked itself into "TITP pt2" territory

stuart, do you remember this interview:
(at 4:15)
...where you and barry talk about "rock action" outtakes that was better than the songs on "rock action. what's the current status of those songs and will they future on the 10th anniversay of "rock action" as an extra cd?
and one more question, what's your opinion of this forum?
cheers.

I'm gonna feel a bit of a fanboy for asking a question but anyway... with a vast back catalogue, how do you decide what to put in the setlists? Do you consciously try and pick songs from across albums or do you just play whatever you feel like? Also, no Helicon 1/MFS etc... for a while, do you get bored of playing these old long songs or do you just want to keep it constantly fresh?
Anyway, cheers a lot for surprising me whenever I've seen you with the setlists, I think I've seen different openers/closers at every gig I've seen you at!

I'd hazard a guess that they were talking about 'close encounters', 'd to e' and 'big e' (later Black Spider)? Given that Mogwai are playing in Mexico on Tuesday, I wouldn't get too enthusiatic with the questions.

well some of those rock action outtakes are fantastic. you forgot 'drum machine' and 'untitled' which is my favourite..... i wonder how many haven't been released... i see the brightlight rock action page mentions rancho carne and tramadol as other songs not included on the album.....
well hopefully stuart does come back at some stage. he answered all my questions, but only cause thom and i were the only ones here! i'm curious to hear what he thinks of the englewood sbd.....

i see the brightlight rock action page mentions rancho carne and tramadol as other songs not included on the album..... i think those were mooted titles, rather than actual tracks. but i don't know for sure. weird thinking that you're probably at work and i'm just going to bed...
