My worst memory of a mogwai gig and it's painfull to say that, as all the other were tremendous was in Toulouse 2001 La mounède!...I was about to leave the venue...As Stuart said, the 2001 tour was incredibly loud on purpose...To finish with bad memory it was Le café de la danse and the "fight" during MFMK...Well anyway it belongs to the past...

Imagine what I'm going to look like when we do that MYT show in Spain. Probably very drunk looking and sad. Maybe crying. Every tear worth a small fortune though. x Are they paying you to dress up as Brendan for those two shows? Will the flute be deployed?

It was on purpose. Its not something we do now but i don't regret it. Our booking agent said during the Rock Action tour that he was worried about whether people would come back and see us after we inflicted them with noise and i remember saying that it didn't do MBV any harm (he books them too). We asked the guy doing our sound on that tour to make it as loud as possible and even though it was really irresponsible it was what we were about at the time. For the record the loudest 2 bands i've ever seen were Throbbing Gristle and Pan Sonic. I love loud music! SB this is good to know. i actually have a couple friends that kind of got a little less interested because of the loudness (after going to shows in 99/01), so maybe i can convince them to show up again. the 2002 tour was also really loud (well, at least that baltimore show @ the ottobar was). i noticed also that the shows didn't seem as loud, but i was also starting to question a bit how much i might have already damaged my hearing. the whirlyball shows were really loud, but i think a lot of that was related to the size of the room. i think the loudest show i ever experienced was atari teenage riot. i think my ears rang for three days? re: the loud 01 tour, i ended up running into ajay a few years back doing sound for dinosaur jr. i'm not sure why that surprised me, but he was really nice and we talked about mogwai and he hooked me up with one of the setlists ... then a couple nights later when i saw him again at another dinosaur jr show, he made copies of the setlist and gave them out to the 4-5 of us that were taping the show. and in response to another post later in the thread re: dvd submitted footage: sorry if my footage was not so great. my camera kind of sucked and it was my first time really filming any shows. i think i did better with the 06 shows and such. i still need to finish editing all that stuff. i am entirely to slack and unmotivated these days. and now an actual question: did you guys enjoy the whirlyball shows? would you guys want to do any shows in that kind of atmosphere again? as someone in the audience it was cool to see shows that small again and also to see some bands in a slightly different atmosphere. oh, and one more question: stuart, i was talking to you at the pittsburgh show in 04 and some guy came up and started talking to you about doing a joy division cover for some sort of soundtrack or compilation or something? did anything ever come of that? Yes something did come of that. The got The Killers instead (Stuart recoils slightly and feels both angry and inadequate). SB

I actually affects how much I even listen to Shadowplay now I will forever hate the killers for that fucking cover.

some of the live selections on the appendix disc to the young team remaster left me scratching my head a wee bit... why did you guys select an audience recording of katrien? it is a good version, but with the drops-outs and such, it seemed a little strange. i dare say that there is a paucity of good versions of katrien from back then. I thought it was a good version. The sound quality is sketchy but it was a really memorable show which maybe swung it. On the way to the show our van broke down and we got a lift in a police car and in a truck with a guy with loads of guns. I got really drunk at the show and had alcohol poisoning and puked in every state we drove through on the 20 hour journey, especially after seeing a poster for new burger king product called a "big cheesey". Barry missed this the lucky bastard. The version of Satan is pretty good and i liked Herod too as its almost funky (by our standards). BTW i AM rich, seriously rich. Just don't tell the other 4 as i have thus far hidden my jewel encrusted lavish lifestyle from them for fear of them inspecting the books and realizing that 95% of our income goes to me. SB son! did you omit the $5 bet part of that story on purpose? maybe dominic should tell our friends on the board. dominic? i know you read this, spill the beans!!!

Oliver (Stone) asked me to keep that bit under wraps as he thinks that it'll be a big "moment" in the film. He thinks it'll show just how close we are. SB

SB So instead of laughing/moaning at the end of Control when some wank version of Shadowplay came on, we could have been hearing a mogwai rendition of Dead Souls perhaps? pfft, people these days. Anecdote ahoy. My wife and I went to see Control when it came out and the last 10 minutes of the film, the crux obviously, was in total silence. I thought (though she didn't) that it was an arty statement (she's an artist and spotted the blooper a mile away) and the whole audience stopped chewing popcorn in the silence. Turns out the audio on the tape was faulty. I'll never watch it again and i feel like i missed out on something that i'll never get back. A bit like having to nip a shite when the bells ring out on New Years night. Which i've also done. Ask my parents about that one. circa 1987. BB

SB wow. i'm not sure what to say to that. the killers are fucking terrible (not that that really needs stating) and if it's that shadowplay cover... that makes me want to stab myself in the ears it's so bad. well, if they wanted a band like the killers, maybe it's better that you weren't a part of that sort of project.

Barry "Party Liaison" Burns I think that you should add psychic powers to your already glowing resume Mine Fuhrer Burns. How the heck did you know i was in my house AND drinking? I hereby demand next weeks lottery numbers so that i can become rich and afford better beverages than the electric white me and my young wife are currently nursing. SB

It's hard to predict the life of a *rock star* that's for sure, Plasmatron. Want to come up the road for the remnants of the Moet? I shit you not. Rachel is suggesting opening all sorts of expensive booze from the er.....cellar. I drove my car into the window of the local garage and i think we got away with it.

I would imagine that John could drink the most. I like drinking with lots of bands and would be hard pushed to pick a favourite though Psychic TV was perhaps the most memorable and Remember Remember is the most reliable. As far as consistency i'd say Trail Of Dead and Arab Strap win as far as successful drunken escapades per encounter go. SB

It's a close call between me and John, n'est pas? I never spew though and he likes to. I enjoy drinking with U2 the most because those Irish tools keep them coming. Unfortunately they drink Midori and Lime so you have to grin and bear it a wee bit.

I'm currently enjoying: Weihenstephan, Tennent's, Rosebank: a single malt whisky from Stuart's neighbour (a gift), Leffe Blonde, Rioja and some Cava my mum gave me tonight. I might get the turps and bleach out soon because it all tastes like regret at the moment.
