Hello youse. We're in Mexico and finding it reasonably hard to keep up to date with the q and a so please don't flood it with anymore q's for now. My favourite band at the moment from Glasgow is still De Rosa (Chemikal) but they'll have a new album coming out soon which promises to be even better than "Mend", their first one. I played on quite a few tunes from it so I've had a sneak preview. I'm off to eat a proper quesadilla.

Can you guys let me know where these great Glasgow record shops are? I'm there for the MBV show next week and, as well as doing some site-seeing, will obviously feel the need to give the credit cards a workout!!! Go to Monorail records, at King's court, near Trongate. Google map it. It's an institution. Bring your credit card, and go there for lunch too, and get a beer or some freshly made lemonade. Right beside 13th Note too, so can get decent grub there too. Avalanche is decent too, but much more a conventional record shop, but still some good cds & records to be had. It's situated just up the steps outside Queen's Street Station (the exit leading towards Buchanan Street/subway entry point).

Volcanic Tongue is great for insanely obscure weird stuff and Rub a Dub is great for electronic/dance music. SB

Well I'm a regular internet shopper with Volcanic Tongue, so I will definitely want to visit the shop itself. I've just got some CD-Rs by the side-projects of The Skaters, which I'm enjoying very much. I know of Monorail, and have heard many good things about it, and not just from this forum.
thanks for all of these - google map will get used I'm staying near the rail station, so hopefully everything I want to do is within reasonable distance

Dear the band,
Have any of you been to the recent My Bloody valentine shows, and what did you think?
Thanks

Balls, then, I have missed them. (For the record MBV were good, the audience were not. Must remember to not go to gigs in London anymore)

The Sky Remains The Same As Ever Is that a wee dig at Mono? I wondered how long that would go uncommented-upon. Couldn't resist the temptation.

We'll still do them if people go mental, in fact we almost did one in Mexico City but they stopped clapping when we were about 10 feet from the stage. 2 I'm sure we'll play that song on tour. SB

We'll still do them if people go mental, in fact we almost did one in Mexico City but they stopped clapping when we were about 10 feet from the stage. Thanks for this, I've been bemoaning the whole ritualisation of a gig encore for ages now but theres very few bands I've heard of that actually only encore if the crowd wants it. The only partial danger is that people are so used to an automatic encore they forget that bands can actually be persuaded to play encores of their own free will, leading people to just give up after 1 minute.

How often do you record your own shows? Do you have many soundboard recordings? Have you thought about releasing a whole live CD or even just a digital release of live tracks along the lines of the ones on the Travel Is Dangerous EP? They are great by the way and excellently mixed.
Also, the same question but regarding video. I seem to remember there were apparantly a few cameras filming some of your gigs a couple of years back, maybe the Happy Songs tour? Did you record good quality audio to go with that and any plans to let that get seen?
Have you seen the Sigur Ros Heima DVD? I'd love to see you do something like that. Of course it'd look like an almighty rip off but still...

any favourite shows you guys have played over the years? now, i know stuart's will likely be before barry joined, hehe, but what about you barry?
i was at your 2 astoria, london shows in october 2003, and the 2nd night was fucking amazing, and i read afterwards somewhere that you guys felt it was one of your best in a couple years..... what others stick out, for both performance quality and other memorable reasons?

Have you boys ever played 5-a-side footy? if so then who plays in goal? Only Martin can play football and he doesn't play at all now. We tried once or twice on tours and I played in goal. I do believe I'm called Barry "The Cat" Burns because of two magnificent saves against the Frenchies.

Questions for the Gwai's: - Will Martin, John and Dom ever make an appearance on here? - Stuart how often do you change amp tubes/guitar strings? What year is your Twin Reverb? - Any plans for wee ones? - How do the 'Wives of Gwai' cope with you boys being on tour for half the year? - Stuart did you really kick Brendan out JUST for talking through an Arab Strap set, or was that merely the turning point of a much larger problem between him and the band? PS Since you're so poor ... screw hotels, when you come to New Zealand again you're welcome to camp at my house. Wii tournaments! Plus my wife will even do your laundry *cheese* Can't wait for the Hawk! Much appreciated Stuart and Barry (you 'cunny funt'!) for taking time out for this.

"Stuart how often do you change amp tubes/guitar strings? What year is your Twin Reverb?"
I can safely answer this question for Stuart. I don't think he'll mind.
Amp Tubes: What are they? Guitar Strings: Once this guy in a shop did it for me. Year of Twin Reverb: How much is a pot noodle?

Have you ever tried to prevent one of your songs from being used in an advert? Under which circumstances would you turn down such an offer?
I noticed a lot of Mogwai songs were used as background music for Top Gear (We're no here, Autorock, I know you are...). What's your favourite song to drive to?

You don't really have to prevent your song being used in an advert because the company always has to ask. If they don't ask they get sued so it's only a very stupid company that would do that.

What about TV though. Do they have to ask? Hahahaha lol lol lol lol!!! That's great. Shame it get's a bit repetitive as it goes along though.
