One of the things that worries me about all this remastering business is the modern trend of over-compressing the original recordings. I really hope that Mogwai don't overdo it when they remaster CODY, because this album is arguably the most dynamically nuanced work they've ever done. www.chicagomasteringservice.com/loudness.html

I had a quick scout of Stuart's Twitter business, and he suggests this'll probably be out next spring.

Are you still looking for this? I'm an old friend of Loughney, I can ask him if he still has access to it (most of his live archive is now in storage, I think).

Been meaning to do this for a while...... I have to put a vote in for the live version of 'ex-cowboy' from the '98 NME Clean Sweep comp. It's absolutely killer. If it were to happen I would much prefer to see demos, alt versions or even remixes over live stuff. Plenty of decent boots out there... I'd definitely rather see a mix. To me having well-sourced live cuts trumps most demos, unless they're different enough to be really worthwhile. Just one opinion.

Can I be the first to suggest a few CODY 'don't look back' full album shows for when this is released? I for one would pay stupid money to see it in full live.

I'm quietly hoping it might be ready come the Alexandra Palace show, which is at the end of May.......... It would be amazing to think that it might be, and that the Alexandra Palace setlist might reflect this, but given that Mogwai are spending a chunk of May playing 'Hardcore..' in South America, I'd be surprised if it happens.

Operation 'trawl through 500 tweets to find one nugget of information' has uncovered a comment from Stuart earlier this week that "Happy Songs is being reissued soon. There are plans for CODY too"

lordy!! wonder what the bonuses will be for "happy songs..." It's 10 years old next year I wonder whether it'll be restored to the full-on silver sleeve too. Un like Rock Action, there's never appeared to be too much in the way of 'spare' songs from the Happy Songs sessions. I can't recall Mogwai talking about unused tracks in interviews, for example.

could these be the bonus tracks?
"mick cooke (belle & sebastian) played on some tracks during the recording sessions which didn't end up on the album - they will be released at some point in the future. other titles mooted for tracks on the album included: everyday is a school day john dies at 56 jebus sabes (these may well have been re-named)
although it doesn't look like it's made the final cut onto the album, barry from mogwai has confirmed that 'jebus sabes' is the correct name for one of the songs recorded"

Taken from Stuart's twitter account yesterday: "On a brighter note I had a great time with @shenderson71 @chemikal_monkey @aidanjohnmoffat and @piousbionicus discussing the CODY reissue."
Hopefully this means we will have some concrete news about this, in the near future!

From the Herald Interview featured on the bl! blog: www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents/music/mogwai-return-as-rave-hearts.23114662 "Consider all of the above, plus the fact that Chemikal Underground will release a remastered version of Come On Die Young before the year is out, and you might think Mogwai are in danger of entering their 20th year in a state of exhaustion. Maybe, but for now there is much for them to revel in, starting with a double debut - both at Celtic Connections and in the splendour of Glasgow Royal Concert Hall." This year, then!?

From today's Chemikal Underground mailout:
Oh yes, attempt to contain yourself but Mogwai's 1999 opus 'Come On Die Young' - arguably Chemikal's most iconic release - is finally getting the full reissue treatment and will be with you this summer.
Following hot on the heels of the band's amazing new album 'Rave Tapes', 'Come On Die Young' will be reissued as a 4LP boxset featuring the original double album alongside a further 2LP featuring seventeen (count 'em) additional tracks.
The hour and a half of bonus material includes previously unheard Chem19 and CAVA demos, tracks from their uber-rare 'Travel In Constants EP' and an unreleased track from the Chem19 demo sessions called '7-25' .
You'll be able to pre-order the reissue by the end of April, by which time we'll have the official tracklisting and every other piece of drool-worthy detail you could possibly be after.
=======================================
Great news but 7-25 isn't unreleased? Unreleased version maybe?

Dear God!
I am trying to save money to vacation in Montreal around the concert in May... But how am I supposed to not preorder this in April? I mean, I have the album title tattooed across my back, how can I not own this reissue? Haha This is going to be AMAZING!

Hmmm... the mailout is making me nervous... as someone without a record deck anymore (I do still have my dodgy early nineties metal records but alas no turntable) the fact that this only mentions vinyl worries me.
On HWNDBYW I couldn't get the home demos EP. On Rave Tapes a further 3 songs I can't own by download or CD. On this are we saying 17 (seventeen!!!) songs I can't own unless I buy a record player?
I really hope there is a double CD version otherwise I will be feeling well and truly like a 2nd class citizen, which irritates me having been a loyal fan since ten rapid days buying as much as I could (early EPs, well and truly into double figure gig attendance etc etc).
I really hope this will not be another case of vinyl snobbery.

I don't recall there being anything extra on the vinyl of the MYT reissue which wasn't on the CD package.

must be more than a 2x cd if all the bonus material is on the 2nd disc - it won't fit (90mins worth). unless they fill the remainder of the album disc with stuff too....(i would be disappointed if they did this though).
anyways, any idea of a full tracklist? 7-25 untitled quiet stereo dee arundel
there's the demo's they played on GLR radio in 1999 Cody Kappa Punk Rock
still not 90mins worth..... the exciting thing is that it means there's stuff that hasn't seen the light of day. looking forward to this I must say.
