Hi everybody, have been meaning to post this for the last few days. Sennen are a big favourite of mine. They recently released their 3rd album, Age Of Denial, and have just finished a mini tour promoting it. As a bit of background to their previous albums, I think the first one, Widows, sounds like Mogwai, and the second one, Where The light Gets In, sounds like Spiritualized. The third album sounds like Sennen, and flows beautifully
So I was visiting Bodega for the first time, and was surprised with how small it was, and the fact there was a staircase comig up into the middle of it, almost cutting it in two. Not a problem though. And I did my usual trick of missing the beginning of the gig, I always miss the beginning, I missed the first 3 songs of Mogwai at Bristol last year.
But I began to watch halfway through the opening song, Sennens first song from their first album, 'I Couldn't Tell You'. Got in just in time to hear the song morph into its big sounding finale. Good sound in the venue, although I had taken up residency by the mixing desk.
I'm useless at remembering what tracks were played, in what order, but Sennen proceeded to play several songs off their latest album, with a smattering of older stuff, including;
With You (the new single)
A Little High
Can't See The Light
Sleep Heavy Tonight
Broken Promise
Your Hand In Mine
Just wanted To Know
and an amazing version of New Orders Bizarre Love Triangle.
Gig was not without its faults, and the scourge of all loud / quiet bands was present, the person in the audience talking.However, even they shut up during the final couple of songs, when guitars went into overdrive and the wall of sound built up. The late 20's female finally stopped talking about heavy flow and stood there opened mouthed at the sheer noise level. However generally the crowd was pretty impressed and the band seemed to respond
i've only written this because I'm massively into the band, and I think they are hugely underrated and ignored. I ask you all to check them out, they're too good to go down the failed band path. And here's my Victor Kiam moment (showing my age), I will gladly send out copies of their stuff, on the understanding that if you enjoy, you go to Amazon or Hungry Audio and buy the originals, they really are a band worth knowing
Thanks for reading
