From a mate of mine who was at the first show last night (primarily to see The Clean)
"I was sat in the balcony watching Pavement with maybe 100 other people (I'd guess it holds 800 or so), and there was certainly plenty of room towards the back of the floor. So 2/3rds full, 3/4s tops."
I wonder how many people have seen the setlists for the other shows and been a bit gutted they forked out to see the same show three times?

I'm off to see them on Thursday. I think this was the first date announced and am pretty sure it's sold out. Watched "Slow Century" today, to get me into the mood.

My personal tribute to Pavement's UK tour-thats-not-a-tour was to go and see The Fall tonight. Loud, chaotic, a bit rubbish at times but utterly compelling from start to finish.

God, not another reunion band that's just playing the same show over + over?
Good call on the Fall. Remind me of this when the inevitable Soundgarden reunion tour reaches these shores + I go a bit misty eyed..
PS. I still stand by my statement that the only decent "reunited" band that I've seen is Slint.

PS. I still stand by my statement that the only decent "reunited" band that I've seen is Slint. Gang of Four with all of the original members was pretty damn great a few years back. Mission Of Burma when they first reformed (I haven't seen them since)? Dinosaur Jr? Wire? I'm sure there are others.

Having seen Dinosaur jr last night and getting my arse and ears thoroughly obliterated im gonna have to second them. Also, I was at the Pavement Show Monday last week enjoyed the hell out of it, pretty much what i expected, but you forget just how many great songs they had. So what if they wanna make a few more bucks out of a tour, Its not like they made millions first time round.

I saw them in Glasgow and on the 12th in Brixton. They were awesome on both nights, I heard that they had to cut their set short in Glasgow, so when I saw them the following week, they played all the songs they didn't in Glasgow.
Also, I think I read here that Mogwai actually borrowed some equipment to them for the Glasgow show? no wonder most of the staff/technicians were wearing Mogwai t shirts!

Saw them three times (Amsterdam, ATP, and Barcelona), all were amazing, perfect shows, and all very different. Where is this comment about them being the same every night coming from? They are picking from 40 rehearsed songs, playing 1h45m - 2h15m length shows so of course there are going to be massive overslaps. They are playing EP tracks, Westing tracks, and songs from all the proper albums - it's a Pavement wet dream!
Also, who cares if a Brixton show or two were quieter? This equals the touts being out of business which I thought we were all for? I like the idea of a band keep adding shows until they don't sell out, thus removing the blackmarket.

I like the idea of a band keep adding shows until they don't sell out, thus removing the blackmarket. Setlists - they always used to draw from all over their back catalogue, at least they were still doing so the last time I saw them in 1997. The setlists for that final tour in 1999 were less varied. I didn't bother going to see them then because Terror Twilight was/is rubbish. I can understand bands playing multiple shows at small venues so their fans can get a real fix. I can't understand bands playing multiple shows at barns like Brixton Academy when there's a barn of similar size in most large cities across the country. That just seems like pure laziness and money-grabbing to me. If they're happy with playing not-sold-out shows in London when they could have been playing sold-out shows in Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Newcastle, then fair enough. I have fond memories of seeing Pavement a fair number of times in the mid-90s. It's a shame that I didn't get to see them this time, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I got to see Times New Viking and Thee Oh Sees for the first time in the last few weeks instead.

A couple of things - Terror Twilight is a fine record. The shows they did for that album (which turned out to be their last) were probably the best I saw them first time round (from CRCR onwards).
The reunion shows have been unbelievable on so many levels and those three I went to would be in my top 20 all time shows if i were the type to do that kind of thing (I am).
The setlist thing though seems to be a criticism that they played a career spanning set every night - just like they used to! What did you want them to do, only play new songs?
I hear you on the shhould-travel-around-rather-than-play-brixton-five-times thing, but really, if I was an older dude in an amazing band, going on my cashing in tour I would do the same. I have zero problems with cash in tours if they are this good.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Terror Twilight. I played it a few weeks back, for the first time in ten years or more, made it all the way through but I won't be going back in a hurry.
Setlists - not complaining about them playing a career-spanning set, just noting that they're more predictable than they might have been.
Sounds like you were probably more of a Pavement fan than I was back in the 90s. Always worth seeing live, of course, but I'd struggle to put any of the shows I saw in my top 20.

I think it is asking a lot for a band on their reunion year to be playing songs more diverse than EP tracks, early singles, and the less obvious album tracks.
But yes, I am a big fan, def my all time favourite band, so I am going to have a slightly defensive stance on this subject!
