Demos - I haven't had chance to listen to them yet. They are 'around'

Gave the demos a couple of spins. They're interesting, computer versions of the songs that are pretty worked up and similar to the final versions.

No 25 in the UK album charts! And No. 27 in GERMAN Album Charts! Wow! Yahoo Germany felt it was worth enough to notice it! And no 25 in Ireland!

Gave the demos a couple of spins. They're interesting, computer versions of the songs that are pretty worked up and similar to the final versions. They are that, but they're also lacking the fuller sound that their final versions enjoy. Fasinating to hear them and a great 'extra' for the boxset. Hopefully we'll get to hear more 'demo' versions of Mogwai songs as the years roll on - there must be plenty of decent recordings in the archives.

How come the vinyl for Hardcore isn't available from Mogwai's shop? Am I gonna have to buy it off Amazon?

How come the vinyl for Hardcore isn't available from Mogwai's shop? Am I gonna have to buy it off Amazon? The pre-order demand for the record on vinyl was such that it basically sold out all the stock we had, we shall be re-stocking soon hopefully as there's been another vinyl re-press done.

To me, "Mexican" borrows quite a lot from Joy Division's "Transmission". Wouldn't call it a blatant steal though because I know the band especially Stuart loves JD. Mexican is probably the best track on the album in my book.

just given the demo's a listen off the net (my vinyl hasn't arrived yet), and i'd say i won't bother giving any many more spins except you're lionel richie. love to hear the bass in such a raw manor. just doesn't some across like this on the record. absolutely lovely.
did dom write most of this one like blow up your school cause it sure sounds like it.

About half a dozen listens to date, and it's still doing it for me.

It's undeniably a very strong set. I reckon there are several tracks here which could be around the live show for a long time to come, which doesn't seem to have happen for The Hawk. I'm sure they're going to get a string of great live reviews if the shows I've seen are anything to go by.

It's a superb album but why would anyone on this forum say anything too different? But it's not as good as 'The Hawk Is Howling'. Ouch/controversial/wrong?
'White Noise' - standard fare/really good
'Mexican Grand Prix' - different/not really Mogwaiesque/Teutonic/brilliant live/dull
Rano Pano - the dog's/outstanding
Death Rays - very good
San Pedro - ace/should be even rawer/louder
Letters To The Metro - lovely/mellow/sexy
George Square Thatcher Death Party - distinctly average and way short as good as the bad perceive this one
How To Be A Werewolf - errm, sorry but this track is utter drivel. Both on record and live. Piece of pish. The band think it's worthy and the fan base - i.e. everyone I've spoken too - think its irrelevant/awful.
Too Raging For Cheers - Classic top drawer Mogwai.
You're Lionel Richie - Again, top drawer Mogwai, But play it loud, for f**k's sake instead of tap dancing around.
So not as good as 'Howling'?
Folks, replay 'Scotland's Shame', 'I Love You, I'm Going To Blow Up Your School' and 'The Precipice'' plus the other ton of stuff on 'Hawk' before you wax lyrically about how wonderfuk 'Hardcore' is.
The latest offering is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but as far as I'm personally concerned on disc and live on stage I've seen and heard better during the 'Howling' period.

I love the hawk is howling too. listened to it again the other day to gain perspective and it is a slow brooding album. it seems like the natural successor to CODY. I love the new album also. imo they are two very different albums. hardcore is a great driving album which you wouldnt normally associate mogwai with. i dont agree that thatcher and how to be a werewolf are drivel either. you could argue that they are 'mogwai by numbers' or you could argue that they are a return to the classic sound of their debut. i dont understand the hate for thatcher. and when i saw youre lionel live, it sounded pretty loud to me

i dont understand the hate for thatcher. I will say this publicly - George Square Thatcher Death Party is one of my favs off the new album. I can see why a good portion of you seem to hate it I suppose, but I like it. Meh, maybe its because I'm a chick.

Well, I'm not a chick, and I also really like 'Thatcher'. Now that I've had the new record for almost a month now, I can say for sure that I love it. And I'd just about stopped expecting to like their actual records all that much. Hawk had some great live songs, but something just killed the LP for me, I think the sound/production.
I just don't get the crazy reaction to Thatcher and MGP from some people, I have a friend who thinks they're the worst things he's ever heard from a band he likes, but loves the rest of the album. To me they just sound like Mogwai, and are very strong tracks as well. The only track I'm not as crazy about is 'Too Raging...', and even that's pretty decent. Can't wait for them to hit NA in April.

New to the board, long time Mogwai fan. I've listened to Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will about a dozen times and it has become one of my favorite Mogwai albums. With Mogwai I've always interpreted the tracks as landscapes and situational sounds. Here are my interpretations and apologies if this comes off as over the top or misguided.
White Noise - This track brings a nice calming feeling over me regardless of my current state of mind. I have visuals of the ocean and I always imagine a rouge seagull just enjoying itself over an endless stream of currents.
Mexican Grand Prix - Love this track. There is so much going on that every time I listen I pick up on something new and I'm starting to make out some of the lyrics in the singing, whether its my interpretation or the actual lyrics though, who knows.
Rano Pano - This has become one of my favorite Mogwai tracks. The way all the instruments kind of fall in formation is such a nice build up to the unexpected bass line that just dances around the entire track. And when the drums kick in, I can't help but bop my head from side to side like a dork.
Death Rays - Another track that takes me back to the ocean (Mogwai does that a lot with me). This is more of a chaotic day at the beach feel, love it.
San Pedro - Sound track to a mental break down. Great song, had to learn the bass line immediately after hearing it for the first time.
Letters to the Metro - Coincidently listened to this track right after hearing the news that my brother had a baby girl. This song will always remind me of the day when I heard this great news so it'll be a special track for that reason alone.
George Square Thatcher Death Party - Come on! This track is killer. The bass line alone is enough to make me stop everything i'm doing and go into a trance. The vocals are a very nice complement to the track, I enjoy picking up the little nuances in the vocals like the hiccups. This track is just a treat to listen to.
How To Be A Werewolf - Not much to identify with on this track yet. I do like it but I haven't been able to really get into it yet. Like Sine Waves I think it'll take full effect when I take the time to pay attention to the full composition.
You're Lionel Richie - Love the guitar on this track. Brings me back to the crappy house I grew up in and all those bad times growing up just to set it on fire and watch it burn to the ground by the end.
Music For A Forgotten Future (The Singing Mountain) - An absolute window of opportunity to escape and contemplate the universe. Too early to determine its full effect but I can guarantee this will be an all time favorite.

Have probably listened to Hardcore about 30 times now. Not bored of it yet which is good going for that many listens. As a whole I think it's their most accessable album and although I prefer the "classic" slow burn tension/release tracks the more uptempo stuff fits well into the flow of the album. To begin with Death Rays was my favourite but now, after alot of listens, the final three tracks (Werewolf, Too Raging, Lionel) are beginning to take on epic proportions.
Hardcore doesn't have an absolute standout track (nothing as good as MFS, 2 Rights, Helicon 1, Tracey, etc) but I think it's their most consistent album, and good on them for daring to be a bit different with the uptempo stuff

I'm still feeling a bit underwhelmed by 'Hardcore,' however, I will be seeing the lads in Cologne on Monday so I'm more than willing to give the songs a chance in a live setting!

I regret ever having compared White Noise to "instrumental Keane" or whatever. Forgive me? It sounds like Mogwai and nothing else, and live it seems to take on a life of it's own.. so lush and beautiful...

My 2 cents thoughts about this new album, i appreciate much more now after being and hear them live. There is nô weak songs , compare to the others albums( for me thé weakest album was mr beast ) and richie and mexican Will be the killer songs live. Strange enough this period for mogwai( audience and music sucess ) remind me thé same thing for simple minds in 1981/1982 period. I dont compare thé music of course, but hardcore album is like new gold dream minds album: Thé bright side of mogwai , something more accessible to a large audience.and critical sucess . We Will see what will happen next, but im confident that mogwai Will surprise us. Btw m'y favorite album is cody and ep+6
