I just saw this. I'm so excited but so broke. Lol A trip to Montreal from Halifax, especially in January is brutal.
Here is to hoping for a really great Xmas gift! Haha

You know, when I saw the countdown, I was excited. 11 months away... no excitement. Plus it's the Hydro. Pish. Depending upon where you are in the venue, the sound can be good, but I saw NIN from the seated area (though near the front) and still spent most of the time watching the screens, rather than the band. I'll get a standing ticket.

Headlining Festival No.6 in Portmerion, North Wales on the Sunday night. 10th September. festivalnumber6.com/It's a festival I've wanted to go to since it started but never had enough money or the right line up to justify the cost and now... gutted we can't go - eldest starts secondary school this September and that will be her first Monday. Wahhhhhh!

Wahhhhhh! Hopefully they'll have got their act together, because last year was a shambles. Some of it not their fault - rain - but they were hopelessly ill-equipped to deal with the car park situation, hundreds of folks just abandoned their cars when it became clear the festival organisers couldn't retrieve them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-37274630www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-37289011Some of it was their fault though - bands lower on the bill turning up, sitting in the car park waiting to be taken to their stage, then being called to tell them to go home as the organisers couldn't afford to pay them.

We looked at going to this one a few years back.
Tickets - ÂŁ195 each Camper Van ticket - ÂŁ190. Plus booking fees.
ÂŁ600 f***ing quid!
No thanks.
We're doing FOUR festivals this summer for a total of about ÂŁ800.
(Edit: Just had a look at FN6 prices for 2017 - ÂŁ630 this year!)

Just had a look at the ticket prices - how do people afford to take kids to this? 2 adults, 2 kids for the weekend is the best part of ÂŁ550, before you've travelled, bought food and drink etc etc. Ugh. There's clearly a different world out there somewhere populated by folks who think these prices are anything other than extortionate.

Really not very happy at the SSE being announced in advance of the rest. I'll definitely be getting a ticket for Brixton, so not too wild about flying to Glasgow the next day. Will probably do Berlin as well. Decent venue.

Why do you think that is Rob? I'm curious as to what the reasons might be. I assume it's all about money, so does it mean that they don't think they can make money on the UK tour, but they can on a US tour, or even playing multiple days in numerous European countries? Or is it probably not strictly about money? What is the live music scene like in the UK - is it having some issues? Or is it related to not finding the right promoter to work with in the UK? Not trying to stir the pot, more just interested why doing 3 nights in Italy and 3 in Germany, and heaps in the US works for the band while doing 3 nights in England, plus Scotland etc doesn't......

I have booked Copenhagen tickets though :-)

If there is to be more UK dates I'd suggest the most logical time would be Spring 2018, and probably not announcing them to late 2017....
Their gig at the Glasgow SSE Hydro is without doubt a massive gamble for the band, it's their biggest gig in their career, so they will be doing everything in their power to ensure that they sell as many tickets as possible for Hydro Show..... I wouldn't expect them to announce more UK shows until they have sold enough tickets to cover their costs for the Hydro Gig.....

Agreed. I think the only additional UK dates we might see this year would be summer festivals.

Or is it probably not strictly about money? What is the live music scene like in the UK - is it having some issues? Or is it related to not finding the right promoter to work with in the UK? Mogwai have chosen to play to as many people as they can manage in as few places as possible in the UK in recent years, with the exception of the Zidane and Atomic shows. Last time they played more than a handful of UK shows in the same run was Feb 2011. I wonder whether that was the last time we'll see them play a long run of UK shows. This decision may be in part down to the fact that when they do play long runs of UK shows, some of them don't sell out. If I recall correctly, the Oxford and Birmingham dates I attended in 2011 weren't full, and there may well have been other dates on that tour which didn't reach capacity. I can't really comment on whether this is a situation which continues, as accessible Mogwai shows have been few and far between for me recently. I've only seen them four times in the last six years, and three of those were in London or Edinburgh.

Venue size is an interesting factor I hadn't really considered. One gig is definitely not the equal of another if the venue size is 5x the others capacity. So therefore I assume that the size of (most of) the European and US venues are considerably smaller than the UK ones they've listed. I've never been to any of those venues, but recognize names of places they've been playing at for donkeys years, which to me equals a smaller size. So therefore it seems logical to deduce that UK fans will travel, whereas US fans won't. Well in volumes large enough to justify playing fewer, but larger venues in the US. I'm conveniently ignoring the difference in geographical size of the two countries.....
Getting off topic a bit, but seeing as I won't be able to attend any of these shows, I have to get some enjoyment out it somehow.....

No comment yet that Mogwai played a surprise set at Primavera tonight? Or that the set list was the new album start to finish?
I hope someone taped - seems unlikely they will release an official stream anytime soon!
