Rock Action's up there, but I'd probably say Domino's top of my list at the moment. Four Tet, Adem, James Yorskton, U.N.P.O.C., Papa M, Pavement...

matador seems to be alright. also sub pop records. silence records is a swedish label that has bob hund (bergman rock) and a bunch of other swedish bands. when i was younger and naive, geffen records was my favorite label.

I've always been fond of Temporary Residence Limited, even with their pathetically long delays on the Travels in Constants series.
For electronic music, I'd go with Planet Mu or Warp (Mu would get a slight edge, 'cause they have Venetian Snares on their label).

tends to go in waves i feel. if you'd asked me this a few years ago i'd have said chemikal underground when they had mogwai, arab strap, magoo and the delgados on their books. but since then i reckon it's not hit the same heights... don't listen to the delgados much any more, didn't rate the last strap album and not really that bothered about the rest. i still admire the delgados though for running the label that's put out some of my fave all time releases. similarly with 4ad... currently i'd have to go with domino, merge, matador and different drummer as well as rock action, which i don't think has put out anything less than a 4 star (out of 5) release in my book but is on a smaller scale than some in terms of number of releases (great quality control in operation!!!) sst has got most of my fave 80s releases - husker du, minutemen, black flag, descendents... then there's creation- sugar, primal scream, ride, teenage fanclub... dischord too & touch and go fuck me, there's just too many. I'm gonna stop here before it becomes an a to z of labels in my collection!

For ages I would have said 4AD -- a label from which I still get every release by subscription -- Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Throwing Muses, The Wolfgang Press, This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance, Red House Painters. Nowadays, it's not so good, with only the Vinny Miller and 50 Foot Wave albums doing it for me this year.
But apart from Rock Action (for the obvious reasons!), I'd have to go with Constellation for uppermost quality output -- Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think, Re:, Polmo Polpo, Frankie Sparo.

temporary residence all the way! hmm. I always find myself comparing TRL to Morr Music - a worthy idea but how many of their records do I actually need to hear? I'm with Mr. Crackle on this one, Domino are doing a damn good job of using the Franz Ferdinand money at the moment.

Nowadays, it's not so good, with only the Vinny Miller and 50 Foot Wave albums doing it for me this year. the forthcoming Magnetophone ep, and what I've heard of the album, are fan-bloody-tastic. Guest vocals from James Yorkston, King Creosote and John Darnielle, amongst others. And some damn good tunes to boot. Anyone else off to this? www.vapour.co.uk/4ad.html

My favourate Record Label is Constellation, a Montreal based label. Purveyors of some of the finest instrumental bands around such as Godspeed you black Emperor, Fly Pan Am, Do make Say think.
