Maybe they subcontracted Pitchfork to write it. Maybe not - there's not enough records released in the last 30 seconds. Bee Thousand, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Slanted & Enchanted, Bakesale, Michigan, Funeral, I See A Darkness, I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, Wild Love are all my personal favourites by the bands concerned. I'd replace Galaxie 500's 'On Fire' with 'Today', and Rachels' The Sea and the Bells' with 'Handwriting' How they missed Built To Spill's 'Perfect From Now On', Drive Like Jehu's 'Yank Crime' is a mystery. I'm not convinced that history will be as kind to TV On The Radio and Animal Collective as current fawning suggests. Every truly great song TVOTR have released is contained on their debut ep, and even then there are only two of them.

Lists like this are tricky affairs. How many of those LPs are actually on independent labels?
Anyway, I must say that I'm surprised to see that "Imperial ffrr" is so high, if it deserves a placing at all. I would have guessed that "Slanted & Enchanted" would have been #1 or #2.
"Bakesale" is a fine LP, but certainly not better than "Bubble & Scrape" in my opinion. Nice to see The Fall, Beat Happening and GYBE in there, though.
I'll have to admit that I hardly know many of the other LPs listed. I know of Neutral Milk Hotel and Broken Social Scene, and am aware that they are much loved, but I haven't heard a note.

Forgot about Bubble & Scrape - yes, it is better than Bakesale, just. The first GYBE album maybe, the rest of them (as with their live shows) were waaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Surely it's impossible to pick a favourite Fall album? They all have pros, they all have cons. You don't need to bother with Broken Social Scene and their various offshoots. You For Got It In People is a decent enough record but everything else I've heard has been self-indulgent twaddle. I saw them play in a pub in Wolverhampton about 6 years ago, seven of them on a tiny stage, including five guitarists, and that was pretty good. I've seen them twice since on bigger stages and they've been dull as ditchwater. Neutral Milk Hotel are a whole different kettle of fish. 'In The Aeroplane over The Sea' is well worth hearing repeatedly, and they were an awe-inspiring live act, singing saw, euphonium and generall off-the-wallness.

i myself do think the better BTS album is indeed Ultimate Alternative Wavers... good to see Sunny Day Real Estate, Diary is amazing (and they were from Washington state)... good to see slint and elliot smith on there also.
i'm surprised the first or second Modest Mouse record didn't make the cut.
i agree, at least half of the list is greek to me.
