baltimore 02 whirlyball shows in 06 usually the shows at the cat's cradle in chapel hill are a nice atmosphere (except the 01 show where it was around 3,000,000 degrees).
i don't think i could narrow them done to one, but those were the better ones, imo.

Astoria w/Bardo Pond & RAH. RAH was the first time I'd seen Tracey live and this track introduced me to Mogwai, combined with the sense of occassion the venue brought it was a top night.

I'm going to say that the Birmingham show last week was the best one, but I've only seen them six times; prior to that it was the Dublin show I saw in 2009, which was blinding but I really did pick the wrong night setlist-wise (went to the first night). I really enjoyed Field Day as well, though I might be alone on that one. have to agree the birmingham show was pretty good setlist-wise....though i'd wish they had raised the volume...or maybe twilight sad had cranked it too high lol.... but the best mogwai "gig" ive been to has to be hong kong 2009...extremely tiny venue....super loud..

The Sheffield Plug one was good actually. I remember a moron near me (who talked through out, obviously) was shouting "You can't call music. This is fucking shit. I don't care what you say, this isn't real music" during Fear Satan. He then left! Really strange outburst, especially as it came at the end of the show, but I still laugh to think of him shouting "this isn't real music." HAHAHA....same thing happened at glasto 2003 during MFMK...actually during the brum show last week...someone attempted clapping along to ithica...ridiculous...

I can honestly say that I can't even begin to pick one that was best out of all the times I've seen them (15+). That seems weird, but I guess it's really a big compliment in that there are quite a few times that would be contenders for the title.
I will say that I found the shows I got to in 2003 and 2006 to be particularly excellent, though. I live in NA (Toronto). And hopefully the ones coming up in 2011.

Definately upstairs at The Riverside, Newcastle in October '98. It was the first time I'd seen them and it was an amazingly intimate gig with only 100 or so people. Plus the last song Summer was requested by me - no shit - Stuart asked the crowd what they should play last and me and another guy argued between Ex Cowboy (I didn't know it at the time) and Summer. I assume I won because it was a shorter track.
The Queen Elizabeth Hall gig comes a close second for being the first concert style experience and one that blew me away. I didn't know it at the time but Jim Morrison was amazing that night ands we were treated to rare appearances of Tracy and Nothing But Happiness. The whole gig was perfect - perfect sound, preformance and audience.

For me it's the personal experience of the whole day/night before/during/after a Mogwai gig which resonates most in the memory bank. As I say, that's my theory...
The Royal Albert Hall concert in London in September 2006 shades it above the other 11 times I've been lucky enough to see the band.
MFMK was unbelievable that night. Plus a superb, underestimated and hastily forgotten 'Black Spider'.
Post the outstanding RAH gig I was lucky enough to chat to Martin while my wife had a garbled conversation with a tired and emotion Robert Smith of The Cure.
The London ICA run in January in Jan 2006 was amazing and Martin's choice to kick off his chosen night with Satan on the back of Gruff Rhys as a warm up artiste and then for the band to play Dial;Revenge was spectacular.
The two nights at the Astoria in London in October 2003 has a popular theory that the second night was the better but personally the Friday gig wins it for me. Bardo Pond opening - as they did on both nights - were terrific but any venue that makes Golden Porsche sound good and interesting wins me over. Oh, and I gave up a work trip on the last ever New York to London Concorde trip that day/night to see Glasgow's finest so maybe that's why I'm jaundiced in that this gig is one of Mogwai's greatest?.
And then there's Southampton University during the Mr Beast tour which was fab. Personal reasons too boring to go into.
And finally and my apologies to end on a negative but compared to the recent lacklustre London Brixton Academy gig/wideboy spiv audience convention I'm so glad that I've got a clutch of outstanding gigs and wonderful memories under my belt.

I actually thought Twilight Sad were too loud; it might not be the case so much for this particular pairing, but when you're a support band many of the crowd are unlikely to be familiar with your material, so burying it under a wall of noise might not be best, IMO

of the five times I've seen 'em, the first @ the Olympic in Dublin in 2003 remains my favorite (only time I've seen Xmas Steps, too) but they have all been excellent.
i wished i'd gotten off my ass to see the early Boston shows (TTs and Somerville Theater).

Probably from:
Bristol Academy - HSFHP tour - There was magic in the room that night. Cardiff - Coal Exchange - Mr Beast tour - beautiful marrying of band and venue The Reading Fest one with Brendan O'Hare - they were nuts that afternoon Glastonbury NME stage headline - Probably that one on balance.

First time I saw them, Barrowlands in 1999. Precisely because it was the first time I had seen them.
Reading 2001 was fantastic too, definitely the loudest Mogwai gig I have seen, the version of MFMK at the end was absolutely fucking brutal.

I have only seen them three times, so I don't have much of a pool to pull from.
However, the Los Angeles 2009 show was the best of the bunch. Killer setlist and atmosphere in a great venue.

First time I'd resorted to inflated prices in eBay, and don't regret it one bit. Batcat blew me out of my seat. Great support sets from Aidan and Remember Remember too.

I've seen them three times, and I couldn't possibly pick a best one. Maybe the 2008 gig in Dallas because when they played Glasgow Mega Snake it was like a religious experience.
This last gig at the Granada in Dallas is the first one which was significantly affected by idiots talking and being noisy. Usually I can filter it out, but during the quiet part in You're Lionel Richie it was impossible to do. Pretty disappointing, but when the avalanche of sublimeness hit, that made it all better again.

I think the support was a big part of why that gig was so good. It was so nice to give Aidan the quiet he deserves and Remember Remember was such a pleasant surprise. I think the QEH is such a lovely sized venue too - much more intimate than the RAH or RFH. IMO
