So when the band plays Jimmy Fallon on monday, what song do you think they will play? Do they melt the faces off the audience with Rano Pano, or play something more conventional like San Pedro or GSTDP?

I hope they'll do a compressed version of "Stereodee" because of Kimmel's sometimes bizarre humor.

I reckon they'll do George Square Thatcher Death Party. It'd be good if they did Rano Pano though.

MGP perhaps?
I think San Pedro would be a great choice: face melt-ish, catchy, and succinct.

Summer is easily their best song for a TV appearance. It is short and powerful. But I suppose it is too old for them to play now, which is a shame. I suppose they will play something from Hardcore, although that album does very little for me. I really hope it isn't GSDP, a song that could not represent Mogwai in a worse way. It is a song so far from what Mogwai is.

Now that I think of it MGP is the most likely candidate, isn't it. But I still hope they play Rano Pano F' the audience if they can't take it!

If you consider the ingredients, this song does contain everything that Mogwai is: - Catchy melodic bassline: CHECK - Wall of filthy guitars: CHECK - Synths: CHECK - Vocoder vox: CHECK - Punchy drums: CHECK - Engaging, melodic motif: CHECK It really is signature Mogwai with a fresh coat of paint! Anyway, this isn't the thread for this discussion. Apologies for the hijack.

Oh yeah, now that I think of it, San Pedro is prob the most likely candidate as it is technically the current single.
Double post.

I wonder this marks the start of them playing more talk shows? I'm thinking also Letterman and Jay Leno and possibly fellow scot Craig Ferguson show.

And fair enough. We all have our preferences. I suppose I feel similarly about The Sun Smells To Loud. Back on topic: I'm not sure how the 'gwai would go over with the geriatric fan-base of Leno, but I suppose if Diana Krall is unavailable they would be fine substitute!

So I'm guessing this Jimmy Fallon is a yank talk-show somebody-or-other? They seem to be a pretty big deal, those talk shows, from what little I know. How they attract an audience at that time of night is a mystery though - do Americans stay up far later than folks in the UK?

Just watched it on my DVR, actually watched it twice. I don't stay up that late so I didn't see live. They played San Pedro, pretty good performance. The sound quality was was pretty good. I don't know how many people watch Jimmy Fallon but hopefully Mogwai picked up a few new fans from it!
And yes, many Americans love their late night talk shows. Letterman and Leno have been on for Decades.

So I'm guessing this Jimmy Fallon is a yank talk-show somebody-or-other? Jimmy was or is together with Sarah Silverman. I think Stuart or more members are fans of her and maybe him. Interesting. Maybe not. I know too much. I should go now.

You're talking about Jimmy Kimmel who is a completely different person. Just sayin'. Elborate that, please. erm, OK. Jimmy Fallon the US TV host whose show on the NBC network Mogwai played on Monday and who the majority of people in this thread are talking about is a completely different person to the US TV host Jimmy Kimmel, whose show on the ABC network Mogwai did not play on Monday but who seems to be the person you're talking about. Jimmy Fallon did not/does not go out with Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel did (until March 2009). Thus, given that you already referred to "Kimmel" earlier in the thread, it's not a major leap to say that you're talking about a completely different person to the guy whose show Mogwai played. I'm pretty sure that Jimmy Fallon is a jockey. Now there's a good 'three degrees of seperation' - Jimmy Fallon to Kieron Fallon. Any takers? I can do it in one - Christian thinks they're all the same person

I'm pretty sure that Jimmy Fallon is a jockey. that'd be keiron fallon. Actually, that'd be Kieren Fallon. To be fair to Christian, I also assumed that this was the guy that did the Matt Damon song until it was pointed out. Thinking back, I've heard both names bandied about but they'd sort of merged into one person in my mind without me realising. Having two different Jimmys with US late night talk shows? That's just silly! One of them must go! Jimmy Fight to the Jimmy Death! Re the video footage. It seems there is someone in 'Torrent World' (I have a bad friend who knows about these things) who caps and ups the shows but it looks like they do it in batches sporadically. I'll keep an eye on it but I don't really know how to edit the show just to Mogwai's performance and stick on a video sharing site. Maybe someone elses does? Assuming someone doesn't figure how to rip it from the US stream before then that is.
