Is that the whole song, two and a half minutes? Hope the other 3 are much longer, otherwise its going to be a pretty short EP!

I really like that. Short, but very very sweet and you can sing the title over the melody! I can see France from here so it's a nice title for me too.

i like it too. i don't think i'm completely off in thinking this wouldn't have been too out of place on the last proper ep they did, and if the rest of the songs match that masterpiece i think we'll all be happy.

I agree! To wit, I wouldn't have necessarily written off ep if Christmas Song had been the first thing I'd heard from it..... Excited to see (hear) what the rest of this little gift sounds like!

Its the most 'Film soundtrack' type thing they've ever done IMO. Quite like it but can't help but thinking it belongs on a soviet block-esqe espionage thriller directed by a Scandinavian. Or is that just me?

Smells Like Barry EP! Get To France feels like an intro if anything, still it's cute and i would have it as a soundtrack to me making breakfast anyday.

Brings into question whether Mogwai did actually write any of the music for The Fountain OST. This would fit perfectly.
Great work gents, looking forward to hearing the rest.

Personally I think it's a bit poop. Fingers crossed for the rest of the ep

'The Fountain' is probably my favourite movie. Although it definitely seems to be one of those things that.... you either like a lot or not at all.
I saw it because of the music, but ended up loving the film itself. The score is very good for the purpose it serves in the film. Not a bad listen on its own at all, either. However, anyone considering buying it should be aware that it's not really Mogwai music, they just play on it a bit. It's writen by Clint Mansell, and the more major parts of it are played by Kronos Quartet. That's not to discourage anyone, just to say that it's not much like the Zidane OST for instance.
Anyway, I'd encourage anyone to see the film. If nothing else, it's certainly beautifully shot.

i'd say that's a pretty accurate review. the EP is quiet, and beautiful.

doesn't sound like they're in a hurry to get another album together.

Well they're still busy touring, and "Hardcore..." is fairly recent! Still, there's this new EP, and the remaster of "Come On Die Young" to look forward to.

doesn't sound like they're in a hurry to get another album together. I'd be very surprised if we see another Mogwai album before 2013 at the earliest. Unless it's soundtrack stuff, maybe.

It doesn't really sound like they have plans for recording in 2012 (except for soundtrack stuff perhaps), so maybe it's more like 2014, with a 3 year gap rather than there more common 2 year gap.
Mogwai Young Team (1997) Come On Die Young (1999) Rock Action (2001) Happy Songs for Happy People (2003) Mr Beast (2006) The Hawk Is Howling (2008) Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (2011)

Just listening now - first impressions:
Get To France we know.
Hound Of Winter is Stuart on acoustic + vocals, Barry on piano, John on mouthorgan plus strings
Drunk and Crazy is the only track on the ep where there's any evidence of Martin? Pretty much buried if he's there at all, could possibly be a drum machine? Big pulsing electronics for the first couple of minutes then a complete switch to pure strings for 40 seconds before the piano/electronics start to come back in.
Does This Always Happen? is repeated guitar motif plus piano and strings with an occasional rumble of buried bass.
Lovely lovely lovely.

I was hoping it wouldn't leak early with the warehouse fire - I know everyone on here will buy it of course. Having said that I couldn't resist a listen and it is very lovely on first hearing. Might be tempted by the vinyl now instead of CD.

Pre-orders going up all over the place. Amazon, HMV, Play, Normans, the usual. Some seem a tad over-proced.

uhh, no mogwai.co.uk or rock action pre-order this time? i'd much rather have the band get the share of the money i'd give to the intermediary.

They will be up for order in the next couple of days. We didn't set up a pre-order as we wanted to be sure stock would be with us on time before we committed to taking orders, seeing as it's had to be re-pressed as a result of the Sony/PIAS fire.
