Just wanted to mention, cos it makes me glad to think about it, that it was 15 years ago this very evening that i first saw mogwai! i believe that my thoughts/memories of the evening are recorded elsewhere on this site.
Many thanks to the band - it's been a grand decade and a half and here's to the next fifteen years!

Presumably without Stuart on drums if so? If the setlist from the night before is anything to go by, you most likely saw them play at least one track I've never seen them play. It's A70 though, so I'm not that jealous. www.youngteam.co.uk/brightlight/eng/gig190996.php

God, 15 years, that's nuts. I too am in the same boat, starting my fandom in June 97. Pretty impressive career, particularly when you consider just how very good thier latest record and shows have been. Amazed that blue Telecaster is still going too!

My first record was the Helicon 7" way back when. I was buying everything on Wurlitzer Jukebox at the time (great label), and that single was the best thing they released. So I'm not too far behind you...!!!

Sometime early in 1996, I went into Plastic Factory (RIP) in Birmingham. Steve behind the counter said "This has just come in, Rob, have a listen, I reckon it's right up your street". He then played me Tuner, or Lower, or both, then said "We only got one copy and I'm having it". Thankfully Tempest down the road had also stocked one copy.
My first Mogwai gig wasn't until April 1997, having missed the Urusei support shows in May 1996 (we've done this one before, I think) and with Mogwai having cancelled a mooted run of UK dates in Nov 1996.
On a side note - the shop manager at Plastic Factory at the time was Spencer Hickman, now manager of Rough Trade East and one of the leading lights behind Record Store day.
Neil - fully agree with your comments on Wurlitzer Jukebox, great label. I believe Keith now builds caravans somewhere in Scotland.
