here's hoping the boys keep the vocoding to a minimum. it works fine on the HAPPY SONGS tracks, but i just heard a live version of 2 RIGHTS w/ vocoder and, i gotta say, it detracts mightily from the song.
sometimes less is more, brothers and sisters.
too much of a good thing.
and on and on.

I hate all that stuff. Bare guitar with maybe a bit of reverb in the background. That's what you need. None of this Buck Rogers ass bulge. I prefer their earlier math rock leanings. Sure, it's stretching the term 'math rock'. but that's what I'm calling it, bucko. I'm talking that set they did with Lamacq. You know the one. Where they played too low and the computer started playing puff rock. Yeah, that was the bee's bollocks that. Best they've ever been. I hate the studio versions of those songs! Hate them, hate them I tell you!
Oh, the grid references. The plinky machine clock sodoku! The black graph equation clusters!
Oh!
Oh!

Like Mogwai say, embrace the technology. Basically the vocoder is a cool toy and they probably like to play with it and it gives the vocals more synth-like qualities., which lets the band treat vocals as another instrument, another layer of melody. Hunted By A Freak demonstrates that

what are ye on about, the vocoder is brilliant. How could a vocoder detract from 2rights live when they used a vocoder on the record? Admittedly the vocoder works far better on record than live (except a very special A.T.P show) but it adds another layer to the music

Yeah, another layer of the misery they seem to want to inspire in us lately. I find it a bit cheap to be so miserable all the time.
