Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a Les Paul copy Jet jl-500 guitar. I also got a Boss desktop amplifier. But I'm asking myself if I've made the wrong choice on the amplification front, since I've been messing around with settings and effects in the Boss app, and so far everything seems to come out with either a cheesy classic rock tone, or sounding like Metallica (no bad thing, but not the goal). The goal is to get as close as possible to that monumental, gnarly Mogwai wall of sound. I'd be happy with anything close to this: , or this:
So my question: If you only had £2-300 to spend on an amp and effects - what gear would you buy to get as close as possible to that sound? The goal is just playing at home in a room, at modest volumes, or listening through headphones. I can't really stray into the realm of real full-size amps without upsetting my household. I'm asking myself if this sound is achievable with a desktop amp and onboard effects (e.g. NUX, Spark, Boss). Or do I need to get real pedals? I also like the guitar tone of the bands Alcest and Deafheaven. So anything close to that kind of tone would be awesome.
