A 40-minute film about Mogwai recording Mr. Beast. It's quite good, with some interesting live and studio footage. I'd give it a 7/10.

balls - watched it twice today already. pissed myself laughing both times - great comedy moments throughout. martin eating mashed up boiled eggs out of a mug with a spoon after talking the camera man through his cooking procedure. class! and with questions such as "who is your fave member of the band", "barry says john is his..." going on you cannot fail to laugh.
a cracking insight into the tedium of recording too...

a real good view of how the band works in the studio. i wonder which movie barry talks about at the end of the documentary.

He's talking about War of the Worlds. It was filmed last July when it was in cinemas.

My only complaint is that alot of the studio/live material is about recording/playing "We're No Here". Sure, it's one of the best tracks on the album and probably the heaviest thing Mogwai has done but... I dunno, just would have been "pure" nice to see some of the other interesting stuff that appears on the album.

just got it today...their accents is a problem, but i was a good laugh with some very nice footage of the recording. only is right most of it is about we're no here, but then again, its not really a bad thing. anyway really worth bying (the whole packaging is amazing compared to the eg. hsfhp one!)

there are subtitles on the DVD? is that just for non-english speaking countries? again, i believe it's record label wise. is your copy by matador or pias?

The subtitles are an option on the UK or PIAS release, I suppose the European label think the lad's accents may be difficult. Can't say I have a problem myself but I'm a Liverpool lad. Loved the DVD, I thought it was funny but made me realise how much they need a proper budgeted full length film which includes more live stuff. I would like to hear the band talk more as well though.

Perhaps the subtitles are because PIAS's market is mainly non-English-speaking countries?
Just watched the DVD for the first time this morning. Highly entertaining. My favourite parts, on first viewing, are the 'intellectual Barry' thing, Martin's eggs and the Q&A stuff - that whole talented/handsome thing is priceless.
