Greetings. Im happy to finally find a forum that concerns Mogwai. There are many reasons why Mogwai are the best band in the world today. They never repeat the same formula for an album and they are constantly evolving. Think about it, the only things their records have in common is that they are instrumental, guitar based songs. Other than that they have hit up a bunch of different sounds and they continue to do it with gusto. If you had asked me in 1997 whilst listening to Young Team that Mogwai would one day record songs such as Golden Porsche, I Know You Are But..., or Dial:Revenge I would have laughed at you. But Mogwai steppedup to the plate and took on those different genres and totally kicked their ass. They have no fear and arent afraid to do whatever they wish.
That may be why they are the only "post rock" band standing at this stage of the game. They continued to evolve, they didnt take themselves too seriously, and they seem to be having fun doing what they do best. I love this band more than any band in the world.

Greetings. they seem to be having fun doing what they do best. i found someone who would probably disagree with you.... www.mogwai.co.uk/qanda.html?class=qanda&cmd=show&year=2004&month=7whoever asked that question does have a point but i think we should take note at his response (not all of it) mogwai gigs do tend to be lacking audience participation

Yeah, youre right about the audience participation thing.
Unfortunately it seems like a lot of indie hipsters seem to attend Mogwai shows. I say unfortunately because they are the type of folks who just go to a show to be seen and stand around all sullen and downcast as if the world is on their shoulders. That does not create an environment that seems condusive to being rowdy and energetic.
Its too bad really, because every Mogwai song live gets me locked into some sort of amazing motion that I cant really deny. Call it dancing I guess. Its odd to be the only one there (including most of the band members) who is moving at all but I suck it up and do my duty. I people were more responsive at their shows.
Maybe it would help if Barry, John and Dom showed some signs of life behind their instruments. You never know.

i often thought that it looks as if they dont give a f--- on stage but if you were on stage every night playing the same songs it may get a tad tedious.
i say let them stand still and seem bored at least they bother to tour!

I wouldn't think it possible. Still my fave live band after more shows than I can remember - how many is it roughly Rob ? I know I did a tally for my best man speech but I can't recall it...
