There's a band from Japan called Mono who are really great. Another great band is Tarentel, from California. Not necessarily post-rock, although they do get compared to Mogwai and MBV is M83, an electronic duo from France. Everyone should check out Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, which is an incredbile album.

I like Mogwai, but don't particularly care for many other bands in the genre. I like Godspeed You! Black Emperor for the most part, but I find some things about them annoying, notably the voice-over bits in their music (but it seems most people love those, so what do I know), and the length of their songs. The problem with a 20-minute song is, if it's a bad song, not only is that a long time to endure it, but it also eats up time which could've been used for more or better songs. Sigur Ros I absolutely loathe, I find their music boring beyond belief. I wonder what makes them post-rock, when their music is entirely absent of the "rock" aspect.

That stems from Sigur Ros' fanbase being made up of people mostly unknowledgable about music. Not that knowing alot about music is an honored practice or anything, but I think people should at least be wise to something they claim to be interested in, especially if you're going to make such a bold statement.

For great space rock, you cant go wrong with Spiritualized. I love Lightning Bolt also but may not suit every Mogwai fan's taste. They're quite heavy and noisy. I agree the M83 album is f****n great. My favorite from last year.

Okay, I have one quick question before I get back to work. How come a lot of the names from people posting are not listed in the "Members" section. And how come it is showing that most members don't have any posts, when they have in fact posted? Am I missing something? Even when it says it is someone else's post that originated the thread, it is showing Mogwai, and as having 80 posts. Well this isn't the best Engish but I'm in a hurry now. Thanks, Peace - Eilis

Thank you for responding. Mystery solved, then! It's going to be real exciting watching this forum grow. I'll see if I can steal some people from the Trail of Dead forum - that has grown to 400 plus fans in the matter of a few months, or so. And don't forget, Trail of Dead and Mogwai are friends! ;D

Yea, I'm Conrad's mum - and proud of it! It is so fantastic having a rock star son - not that he'll take me on tour with him, meany. Still, I get to see a lot of their shows. Thinking of moving to Austin Texas actually - can't hack this grey rainy Washington weather much longer. Its mid June and still no sign of the sun...... Thanks for checking out my web site. It's still in the works actually. I just took a web design class at college; I still need to professionalize it somewhat. If you are interested, check out the Trail of Dead forum, lots of exciting topics going on - kind of. Who are you by the way, it says Mogwai, but they are just transferring posts from the old board. Oh isn't life just TOO complicated! Take care, Eilis

Its fair to say that Death Cab For Cutie make emo sound appealing for a change..Does anyone have a respectable opinion about Arab Strap and which album they'd recommend? Also, in response to glyn's post-rock lineup--> sweeet. tortoise are the shite.

Evening All,
I'm glad you like tortiose 'progwai'. Your compliment is much appreciated.
Arab Strap is another band I forgot to mention, not really post rock. But awesome! I've managed to get all their albums in the last two years. In my opinion, Elephant Shoe is a really good album to start with, also Philophobia is awesome. Though the latter is not suitable for the faint hearted! Its all about break-ups etc. Great if your Girlfriend is being mean to you!
The Best Arab strap song (In my opinion) is 'The First Big Weekend' which is on The Weekend Never Starts Around Here. Their First Album.
I'll play some Arab Strap next Wednesday, 9:30-11 'www.burstradio.org.uk' for you.
Best Wishes
