...are releasing their new self titled album on tuesday. from what i've heard from the new single it's different from their previous "bloodflowers" album. any fans here? i remember back in the 80's when my sister always listened to the cure. our uncle, a former the cure fan gave all of his vinyl singles to her. and we're talking about rare stuff. mostly from their early career up to the "disintegration" era. i never got into the band because i was in my sad heavy metal mode at the time. i really regret it because i missed out on some great stuff. anyways, i became a fan after listening to "plainsong" from the "disintegration" album. i've never seen them live, although i wish i saw them on the "wish" tour but i was too young to go at the time. i don't think they produce as exciting music now as they did ten years ago. some people might disagree on this. i remember watching the "the cure live in orange" concert on vhs and laughing at the scene where the bass player removes robert's wig to reveal his new haircut. i remember ray cokes show on mtv where he had this the cure special. he and robert sat in their tour bus talking before a the cure gig. and ray kind of joked that they could go to a bar instead to the gig and robert said something like "don't temp me!". it's probably not funny on paper but robert's way of saying it was really funny.

I just got into the Cure recently. I have the new album on the computer but I have yet to listen to all of it. From what I've heard though, it's pretty damn good. Critics are saying it's their best since Disintegration, which is my favourite Cure album.

Sounds about right... do you remember the show going on for a bloody long time Rob? 3 hours + rings a bell - getting into Springsteen territory I seem to think.

not being a huge fan im only really familiar with the greatest hits - my favourite cure album till now was boys dont cry the new lp is a million times better. i cannot find the words to give this album justice, christ im only on track five and i think this is one of the best albums ive heard in a long, long time.
you'll have to track it down and give it a listen it really is as good as im trying to make out - the 1st track is very 'post-rock' (i hate that term but at least you now what im banging on about) but with exellent lyrics! robert smith belts out the lyric whilst droney, detuned guitars chug throughout.

the cure have changed their line-up.
two members of the band have left, bringing a decade old line-up to an end.
guitarist perry bamonte and keyboard player roger o’donnell are no longer with the group, leaving singer robert smith, bassist simon gallup and drummer jason cooper.
a statement on the band’s official website thecure.com said: "perry bamonte and roger o'donnell are no longer in the band. the forthcoming summer shows will be performed by robert smith, simon gallup and jason cooper... and others?"
the band’s first gig with their new line up will be at this year’s benicassim festival in spain (august 5).
o’donnell wrote a statement on his website rogerodonnell.com saying: "what is done is done however it happened. i was in a group and now i'm not ... thanks to everyone who has emailed me, i will reply to you all and i wish the cure all the success they deserve."
a revolving door of musicians have backed smith over the band’s 26 year career.
o’donnell first played with the cure between and 1987 and 1990 before being replaced with bamonte - a roadie for the group.
following the departure of porl thompson in 1993, bamonte switched to lead guitar and ’o’donnell returned to the band in 1995.

Are there any firm details about the rumoured second Glove album? I understood that Robert Smith and Steve Severin talked about a possible get-together a while back.
