what an odd title for a thread eh?
anyways, i'm looking for that kind of music. i like what jose gonzalez does, i like that chilled vibe with just vocals and a acoustic guitar. i guess it's the same with nick drake but i haven't heard his stuff. also there are some songs on beck's "sea change" that could fit into that category.
does anyone have any recommendations? cheers.

hell yeah. I saw Jose Gonzalez again on Weds, very enjoyable. He managed to pull off a decent show whilst making a 1500-capacity venue seem intimate. You could do a lot worse than investigate the Fence Collective www.fencerecords.com/Start with James Yorkston, King Creosote, Pictish Trail others: the recent Chris Brokaw record on Rock Action (not strictly solo acoustic but well worth hearing) Alasdair Roberts www.alasdairroberts.com/Tunng - a lovely mix of songwriting and electronics. I suppose I should declare an interest here... www.tunng.co.uk/Don't let anyone sucker you in to buying that dullard Adem's records. I'll have a think - I'm sure I've missed some really obvious people....

i downloaded a couple of james yorkston songs at itunes. i'm digging "a man with my skills" a lot. there's definitely an ocean full of unnoticed gems in my book when it comes to this kind of music. i also liked tunng, i liked the cross between electronic and folk music. will definitely look for the other music too. i believe i've heard james yorkston without noticing it. he performed at the accelerator festival (in sweden) about three years ago when mogwai also was performing. i remember being flabbergasted after seeing damien rice. what happened to him?
