I'm thinking of buying one of these two pedals. I've messed around with the DD-20 a bit but it seems like the DL-4 has more to offer. I was a bit disappointed by the dual delay setting on the DD-20. The short delay only goes to 100ms. I was hoping to ditch all of my other delay pedals, but to get the true shimmering delay effect, i'd have to keep my dd-6 in my chain. I know Stuart uses a DD-20 but he may use another delay pedal to get the delay (the delay in Helicon 1, Tracy, etc.). Unless there is a patch for the DD-20 that gets around this. Anyway, just curious to see what the opinions of all of you on the subject is.

A good thing to do is to read each and every review at harmony-central.com My friend/guitarist in our band recently got a DD-20, but continues to keep his DD-3 in his chain too. The best way to get those delay effects in Helicon, Tracy is to use 2 delay pedals at once plus a reverb. Mogwai (and others) use those Boss RV-3 pedals which have simultaneous Reverb AND Delay modes. I'm not a big fan of the Boss DD pedals EXCEPT the DD-20 which is a really nice pice of kit. I have a Digitech X series Digi-Delay which I have basically mastered, and can push out all kinds of sounds with it. It has an especially loud delay level knob which when turned up to 100% (especially on the shorter delay modes) just about completely drowns out your original guitar signal... so getting that shimmering effect is very easy especially with my Verbzilla set after the digi-delay. I know some of those Mogwai songs sound like there's 2 delays but depending on your delay length (IE: mid length), volume (loud) and picking speed (fast) you can get that shimmer effect no problems. With the digitech you can anyway When we record i'll let you all know if you wanna hear. I know that the Line 6 DL4 has this awesome option where you can sample a piece of guitarwork and actually save it into memory, then recall it during performances with a tap of a switch... kind of like a mini-sampler - that is such a cool feature! But i've also heard of DL4's being unreliable, crapping out and making funny noises and whatnot. The DD-20 has so many options. I wasn't impressed with the dual delay either, it's more of a prnounced slap-back echo. I was expecting it to overlap 2 delays and give you full customization of each, which would be the ultimate shimmer! So.. i'd go with another delay digital pedal (possibly not a DD-20) or an RV-3 and use it together with your DD-6. Should be all delayed out after that

I went ahead and bought the DD-20. After messing around with the DL4, I thought the DD-20 was more practical. The DL4 has some cool features, but it messes with my tone a bit. ALso, there is a drop in volume when I kicked it on. I've also heard that the DL4 is not that reliable. So I went with the Boss instead. I'll have to keep my DD-6 in the chain to get the shimmer, but I can deal with it. Now I just have to figure out how to use it. Thanks for the input and advice only!
