Anyone up for posting their records of the year? This is prompted by the Rough Trade and Piccadilly lists, both published this week, and both an overwhelming reminder that 2006 really hasn't been a great year for albums. There's some startlingly average stuff in both (Vetiver?! Midlake?!) and they're stuffed full of the fringe elements of the American Weird Folk thing, the new orthodoxy, and now with a license to churn out endless crap Neil Young b-side reruns a la Mercury Rev. Dull dull dull 70s rubbish. Too much hair 'n' all. www.piccadillyrecords.com/www.roughtrade.com/site/content.lasso?page=top100_2006.html

i know that neil (a.k.a. cheggers) has a lot more on his list. maybe he could supply us with a top 100 list? neil? that defeats the point though. I'd like to see a list of 10 records from 2006 that Cheggers reckons I really can't live without hearing, but I don't need to see a list of all the records The Wire/Volcanic Tongue/Eclipse/Aquarius/TimeLag/Fusetron recommended this year.

Hmm, I actually need to listen to a few records from this year.. In no particular order from what I have heard,
Mogwai - Mr Beast & Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped.
Fine fine records that you will actually still be listening to in a few years time. I think that also shows I haven´t heard that many new records released this year. Ask me after Christmas
What say ye Rob for your own choices?
O, was 65daysofstatic - onetimeforalltime released this year?

What say ye Rob for your own choices? O, was 65daysofstatic - onetimeforalltime released this year? I'm still mulling mine over, and there are a couple of things I need to spend a bit more time with (the fantastic new Sophia album being one of them - track 1 does a nice wholesale steal on the drums from Mogwai Fear Satan, for starters) I think 65dos was released this year.
