Around the time that I first got into Mogwai I downloaded the 4 Satin EP. It contained 4 tracks, mislabelled:
1) Superheroes Of BMX (something unknown) 2) Now You're Taken 3) Stereodee (really BMX) 4) Bonus Track (really Stereodee)
All seemed normal until I bought EP+6 and realised that a track was missing and two had different mixes. I've since bought 4 Satin and it's the same as EP+6. So my theory that these were the original mixes of the tracks seems to be wrong.
Now what's odd about this EP I originally downloaded is in tracks 1 and 4. Track 1 is something I've never heard elsewhere, based around a D note on the bass, lots of distortion+feedback and has some garbled talking in the background for some of it. Track 4, Stereodee is a totally different mix, it starts off quite mellow with a slow phaser effect on the guitar before jumping very suddenly into distortion and masses of noise.
I quite like both versions, does anyone know where this original internet one came from?

The original US pressing of 4 Satin was in fact mispressed so that it contained a track that I believe the band had decided not to release (called 'Guardians Of Space'). An older mix of 'Stereodee' was also wrongly included. It looks as though it was this that you downloaded.
The tracklisting for the mispressed EP is:
1. Guardians Of Space 2. Now You're Taken 3. Superheroes Of BMX 4. Stereodee (Early Mix)

Ah that explains it. That Guardians Of Space song is excellent though, shame it was dropped. Thanks for clearing that up.
