Hi. It's Barry here. I wonder if somebody can help. I went to the Phoenix Festival in 1995 and I was trying to find out the COMPLETE line up of bands that played that year. I can't find it anywhere on t'internet and my only hope is that someone has one of the posters that had the whole line up on it. I know they had posters like this because my friend had one, which he doesn't have anymore. Reason being, I think I missed so many bands that I like now, that I want to sicken myself a wee bit by seeing what I lost out on. Can anyone help? The internet has the line up for 1996 (which I believe Mogwai played: before my time) but no mention of 1995. Weird. Barry

Barry I *think* I've got the original programme and listings for this in the loft. How urgently do you need it? Was this the year Shellac played?
I'm not sure if it was 95, but there's certainly one Phoenix line-up from around that time where David Gray is listed to play on every stage at some point over the weekend.
Mogwai at Phoenix was 1997. I know, I was there. Some of them were deploying the 'big shades and staggering' technique commonly associated with people who've been drinking or taking drugs. Scandalous.

I have the programme at my folks house, will get it in the next couple of weeks and post it all over to you.
I'm fairly certain that was Shellac year. I was probably watching Dodgy instead.
Fetch the gun.
(will report back)

Just checked, I went 93 and 94, but not 95. I thought that 95 Main Stage line-up looked unfamiliar.
Shellac year was 1994. There was a World Cup match being shown on the big screen at the same time they were on (Shellac were in the sparsely-populated third stage tent), and Inspiral Carpets were headlining the second stage, as I remember. Iain and I (and John Peel, who was stood about 10 feet away) thoroughly enjoyed the Shellac set, but the other people we were with went for the Inspirals option. It was a bit difficult to explain to them why Iain and I were imitating aeroplanes afterwards....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_FestivalThis only has the 1994 line-up, for some reason. This was the Sunday line-up on the third stage. It was a bloody good afternoon, Shellac/GvsB/Bailterspace in particular. Shellac - Sunday 17th Girls Against Boys - Sunday 17th Brick Layer Cake - Sunday 17th The Raincoats - Sunday 17th The Pastels - Sunday 17th Bailterspace - Sunday 17th Tsunami - Sunday 17th Mambo Taxi - Sunday 17th AC Acoustics - Sunday 17th It seems we picked Shellac even though they were on at the same time as Iggy Pop, the Inspirals, Herbie Hancock and Eddie Izzard.

I went to every Phoenix - used to love it. So I saw Inspiral Carpets at the arse end of their career instead of Shellac.
Fetch the gun again.

Jim - if you went every year - was it 97 The Charlatans headlined one night, and Isaac Hayes was on the second stage as they finished? He was bloody fantastic. They weren't.

Yep that sounds sort of right. I probably got over excited about the Charlatans and did some weak baggy dancing rather than seeing a legend elsewhere on the site. So young.
Which year was it mogwai played really early on the second stage (the big tent) and I watched them whilst eating a bowl of cereal? And Dom had amazing big trousers on?
Funny what you remember.

Cant help noticing there is nothing about that show on the gigography. Is "I had a bowl of cereal and Dom wore amazing big trousers" sufficient?

Hmmmmm... Well, as you're now Barry's best mate, I suppose I can't refuse.
I can't remember anything much about the setlist, although I'm sure I/we could hazard a good guess. An earsplitting version of 'Like Herod', perhaps?

For some reason I am almost certain they played Yes, I am a long way from home, but that is all I can offer. I know they were immense.
After the show I saw Dom at the side of stage and gave him the thumbs up and he mouthed "thanks."
I suspect he thought it was a thumbs up for the trousers though...

I've just found a very amusing photo of Simon, Mogwai's tour manager, back in his Wedding Present drummer days, in the 1989 Reading Festival programme.

Annoyingly I have again forgotten to pick up the programmes. I was feet from them a couple of hours ago.
So which Wedding present drummer is the Mogwai tour manager, and what years was he drumming for? I did no know that.
