I'd have to read the article again, but it studio seemed to be self built and used from pretty early on. The article is broken down in year by year segments, and it crops up all over the place!

Anyone been to see them yet? I'm pretty tempted to pocket the cash for my tickets and avoid yet another washed out nostalgic clap-trap cash-in.

I went on Saturday night. It was very loud and that's about it really. Great if you weren't concerned with hearing any of the songs as such. Especially great if you like to hear jumbo jets taking off. I've been to the Roundhouse before so know that the sound is pretty shit, but the fact that the vocals couldn't really be heard and all I could hear was a mess of white noise left me under impressed. I think they're a wonderful band on their albums but live it's not my thing. I have a ticket for tonight which I would sell but it's an eticket so I'd have to go to the venue to pick it up and sell it on, so it will just go to waste. It's strange to think I was so excited when the gigs were first announced.

I've heard the same thing from people who travelled from Birmingham for the shows over the weekend. A big ole mess of noise (and thankfully someone has had the good sense to include free earplugs in the admission price, or at least they did on Friday). One photo I've seen had a whole row of girls with their fingers in their ears looking at the ground.

Ha.. I remember hearing their shows were a big wall of noise - not that I'm adverse to a bit of white noise, but I think I'll pass on this.

I went on saturday, show was good and the sond was amazing where I was, and sounded great with the ear plugs in. No atmosphere though due to the dull London crowd of people who were there because they thought they ought to be (like me). There was no excitement at the start of any of the songs, and considering they sold out in minutes you'd think there would have been a bit more excitement about it all.
You can pretty much guarantee that the manchester and Glasgow shows will be amazing in comparison.

I wanted to go to the Barras shows, but had to sell my tickets as I'm totally cash strapped (I'm getting married in a few weeks) maybe I have my priorities wrong

Another messageboard I lurk around had the rumour that Mogwai would support MBV in Glasgow. Probably rubbish, but thought you ought to know.

Hmm they're playing Toronto on 30th June & then Roskilde on 4th July. Bit of a mental schedule to squeeze a show in Glasgow on either the 2nd or 3rd of July to support MBV.

is anyone else still deaf after the forty minutes of absolute insanity that closed last nights Manchester gig?
The loudest thing I have ever hear, by some distance, was incredible, people were walking out holding their ears!
Mogwai need to up their speakers to 11.

i went last night and i feel pretty fked! i wore earplugs for the holocaust but it's more the physical feeling than anything... my tongue and eyes were shaking!
having seen some pretty loud gigs (mogwai, boris, icarus line) that was by far the loudest.
mogwai - turn it up!

Following an appeal from christian, a few words about the MBV gig last night in Manchester. Setlist was awesome: I Only Said When You Sleep (When You Wake) You're Still In A Dream You Never Should Cigarette In Your Bed Come In Alone Only Shallow Thorn Nothing Much To Lose To Here Knows When Blown A Wish Slow Soon Feed Me With Your Kiss Sueisfine You Made Me Realise and without a doubt was the loudest gig i've been to in my life by a country mile( i've been to a fair few). Had earplugs in all the way through thank god but as soon as the holocaust during you made me realise finished, after what i think was about half an hour i felt ill. Could have thrown up after, in fact i was unable to drive for about half an hour after due to my balance having gone completely. My hearing since has been appalling - cannot stand any low frequency drone whatsoever without feeling sick. The air conditioning in my office today was the work of satan and his winged messengers. The rest of the show was absolutely awesome and well worth the £22.50. The best gig - apart from the ear problems - since LCD Soundsystem, also in Manchester but after the anticipation it was so good not to be let down for once. I think Kevin Shields was playing through something like 12 amps - absolute insanity... these are just his a couple of decent clips on youtube for those who fancy it... uk.youtube.com/watch?v=R6n9GMhrkBwuk.youtube.com/watch?v=xsHowjWbRbEthe gauntlet to all the young 'uns has been thrown down! Oh, and for those of a similar age to me, twas a real nostalgia trip of the best sense with Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3 fame playing Transparent Radiation and Suicide with Spectrum last night when supporting. Took me back to Reading 1989 with Loop, MBV and Spacemen 3 all on the same bill...

Some observations from last night's show at Glasgow Barrowlands.
1. My Bloody Valentine are astonishing. 2. Theirs is music that absorbs you. 3. "Soon" is quite possibly the most sensual song that has ever existed, but that highlight was kicked into touch when they played "Feed Me With Your Kiss". 4. "Loveless" might be their masterpiece, but "Isn't Anything" is no less vital. 5. They were loud like you wouldn't believe. "You Made Me Realise" could have gone on forever. 6. To the chap near me who shouted to his friend that he couldn't hear the words: You're an idiot. 7. I'm strangely disconcerted by the proliferation of bags in concert halls, chiefly because their corners come into contact with me at a steadily annoying rate. What purpose do bags serve at a gig? If it's too hot to wear a coat, don't bring one!
PS: As well as earplugs, I'd recommend an empty stomach, and possibly empty bowels too! PPS: Glasgow is a fine, fine city. I spent hours in the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery - lovely.

The gig at the Barras last night was amazing. I wasn't wearing earplugs, but did any other attendants feel it wasn't as loud as they expected? "Soon" and "You Made Me Realise" were tremendous.

Just some hint for the MBV fans here: I was wondering if the guys from RNE Radio 3 are going to air some MYT stuff from this year's Summercase festival. No sign of a Mogwai broadcast yet - but according to www.rtve.es/FRONT_SALA_PRENSA/?go=eacaa4148f48af89730076a6669df2169fcb5b71e1aa29da6b3326aee96788b11cbe9bc8987ae0742e67b3fdbaa01d7c they will definitely air some concerts from MBV and Sigur Rós (OK, I'll gladly do without the latter ones). I will try to record the show via digital satellite. (Pray for good weather as the signal strength of RNE3 is quite poor.) Anyone else here who receives RNE3? Radio 3: Hotbird 8 (13.0E) - 11785.00 H - 27500 3/4 - SID 3583
