Hi slinter, Jack and mogwai…an offer for trade of course. Never thought to sell something like that. I´ve got the recording from a friend´s friend. It was digital recorded and it sounds fantastic. For trade … every good 2003/2004 show would be fine. Cheers.

Another newbie stop, woohoo :-) So, friend of mine comes back from the Pukkelpop Festival (Belgium) in August 97, says he's half-deaf from one ear cause of a bunch of noisy young Scots, buys the album and there we sit, listening to Young Team at full blare... Like Herod totally took me by surprise, I had to jump to my feet to put the volume down while said friend grinned... One hour later I was hooked on Fear Satan - forever, or so it seems now First time live, that was at L'Aéronef in Lille (FR) in May 98. Heard that was the only time they played Sweet Leaf on stage. And they did a very, very noisy Stereodee, too! My first MD recording ever, yes people, if you have a horribly butchered, tinny sounding 90-minute copy of it, that's from my original. Sorry for editing the master, I didn't know shit about bootlegs back then

I know more people with a copy of it than any other mogwai boot!

As bizarre as it sounds, I've been a fan of Mogwai since I saw them on TV - from the NME Awards Tour in 1999, just before CODY came out. They did Helicon 2 and Ithica, which did funny things to the head of an impressionable teenager still in thrall to Britpop. I first saw them live at last year's Glastonbury, and then again in the autumn on the Happy Songs tour. A great band on top form.

the Priority Version for Peel, but not the 'proper' version sadly. it's not relevant but there's a brilliant version from the black sessions they did in france back in '98. edit: didn't read mogwee's post. probably the definitive version of helicon 1 IMO. I'm sure it'll be on the sessions album ;D that's the one from the deep end cd?

Went to see them in 97 at The Leadmill in Sheffield. Only about 20 people there and Brendan was in the band, he was wearing a dress !
Had heard Helicon 1 on the radio recently so went to check them out. Bought ten rapid that night and every release since. Seen them at least 6 times now.
Marvellous

About 1997/98. I saw Mogwai on the NME Brats tour highlights show on channel 4. They played Summer and I was instantly hooked.
Bought Young Team shortly afterwards.

When I heard Fear Satan, have been a huge fan ever since.
Fear Satan is the "our tune" of my wife and I, but i think the story behind that belongs in another thread..

The very first time I met my wife, I knew she was a flautist and i took MFS to play to her with the intention that if she DIDN'T like it, there would no point in seeing her again.
We were in bed before the end!!
I also got down one knee during MFMK at the Brixton show...

it must be from 2001 or 2002 i believe, i had heard their name lots and lots of times on this radio show here, but i didn't bother to try them out. i downloaded some music and i didn't like their hard work (different, more ambient taste of music back then), but stanley kubrick was absolute bliss. after that i was getting more and more into them and i saw them in 2003 on a festival (they played belgium twice that year, but i couldn't make it to their gig in brussels. right now my dorm is about ten minutes from that place so i don't have an excuse this year:) ). i got me a mogwai hoodie in early 2003, don't know exactly why but i liked the death metal logo and now it's one of those clothes i'm proud of

my sister had Young Team back in 1997, but I would then have to wait almost six years to see them live. it'll be my fourth time on Saturday.

The gig they did for Steve Lamacq. On the radio, that is. I'd first heard their name in NME or Melody Maker. That guy from Cornershop was saying that they weren't as weird as Mogwai. My antenna bristled! Heard they were doing a session on radio. Taped it, without listening to it. Got stoned and played the tape. And this was back when getting stoned still worked properly. You know, before all the screaming and feeling like you're going to swallow your tongue. Anyway. Best thing I'd heard since Pavement. Brilliant shining summer days!
Now they just sort of make me miserable. But I have to listen, because there's nothing else different enough out there.
I FUCKING HATE YOU KAISER CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to hurt you to death.

I loved it but said to her "can't see how they'd work live though?" Well, I was at the ICA last night too and nearly had tears in my eyes. I'm nearly 40, music fan for donkeys, and never has a band blown me over like that. After we got back. me and GF put them (the whole back catalog) on to play. It was only at about 8am I had to get up and change stuff, realising that something else was coming on. Awesome. So glad there's more dates. I think Southampton is the first trek.

total guitar magazine introduced me to mogwai when they had tracy on their coverdisc im pretty sure it was released around the time of young teams release so it would have been late 1997. i would put tracy on repeat and listen to it at night to help me get to sleep, i listened to it so much i knew the telephone conversation word by word, it wasnt until early 1998 when i got around to buying young team. since then ive been hooked! I got the same copy of total guitar, and fell asleep to it loads, but never brought anything on the back of it untill someone played Like Herod at a party, really loudly and scared everyone there, then i was hooked hello btw, cool to find a forum for mogwai fans. im off to see them for the 8th time in oxford in a few months also, it must have been amazing to propose at a mogwai gig, i might have to steal your idea at some point in the future

...Since I saw them perform 'Summer' on the NME Brats tour (the one where Stuart wears a cardigan). Still a brilliant performance.
I went out and bought Young Team. I remember being initially disappointed with the 'priority' version of Summer but it wasn't long before I was deep into the album and I think I knew very quickly that I loved this band.
First 'gwai gig was upstairs at the Newcastle Riverside for Radio One's Sound City (29th Oct '98). Amazing - about 100 people (and Mary Anne Hobbs) And I was at the front - It was a full set, but the encore wasn't broadcast. Unfortunate, as Stuart asked if anyone had requests. Someone shouted out "Ex-Cowboy" but I shouted even louder "No! Summer!" and they played Summer and it was excellent. I was hooked.
I'm surprised that I've never been able to track a copy of this gig down seeing as it was broadcast live on Radio One but I never have. Better still would be a bootleg of the encore but odds are with the size of the audience that noone did record it (although I'm pretty sure the BBC didn't stop recording so...)
If anyone has a copy (or know's someone at the archive dept of the BBC give me a PM)
;D
