Hi guys, I'm new. Have been a Mogwai fan for sometime now. It's the kind of music you can listen to over and over and never get sick of. I've also been lurking around this board quite a bit and have enjoyed reading the discussions of others who share an appreciation for good music. I was wondering if any of you had asked the Mogwai guys whether you could use any of their music in your student films etc., and whether they were quite happy to allow you to do so? I'm studying post-grad animation in Melbourne, Australia. I fired an email off to Stuart last night with the request, but I'm sure it will be a while before he wades through the tons of mail he probably gets before reading mine. So I thought I would enquire here also. By the way, when is Mog coming out to Australia next? After I finish my post-grad degree I may be coming to the UK once I get my British passport (My Dad is a Scot) so if it's not soon, I can't wait to catch a gig once I'm over there. Anyway, I look forward to chatting with you guys further, and hope I can get a response to my film request soon as time is against me! Cheers

I almost forgot. Thought you all might enjoy looking at a concept drawing for my animation that I have been playing with. Cheers

hello there
when mogwai's beloved q+a was still alive, i asked them the same question and they said it was okay as long as you didn't make any profits from it. i used 'tracy' for a short film i had to make this year (and finished my year too *yay*). hope this helps

Thanks for the reply CMX. That's great news. I still look forward to an email from Stuart, but thanks for the heads up on what they said. I don't intend to profit at all. I do wonder what their stance on having the film show in a festival is though. I'd just like to hear an ok from them so I can rest easy, I think it's rude to take someones art and use it (even for non-profit projects) without asking permission. I read in a 2003 interview that Barry said their music had been used for student films, so I had a feeling that it might still be ok.
Congrats on graduating. I'm never studying again after this, not formally anyway. Under grad + post grad = enough is enough. I've had a lot of fun though.
Cheers
