am interested to see what amazon do with the price malfunction they had for the vinyl boxset back in december. my order is still there - no email from them cancelling or changing it due to the error. page says the title is released Feb 21st, so that makes sense what the others are satying...

so the box set is delayed for a week? (according to Amazon and Norman Records) I saw this on Boomkat, too. Production problems, so they say (or have been told). But it seems pre-orders via Mogwai's site are being sorted.

so the box set is delayed for a week? (according to Amazon and Norman Records) maybe they haven't received stock yet? my shipping confirmation says it was sent out this afternoon. On a side note - I thought the shipping costs were so expensive because a courier was being used? The shipping email says it's been sent out by Royal Mail. Presumably one of their signed-for services then.

Boxset looks and feels fantastic. Nice heavy package. Inner sleeves on the vinyl, and inside the CD package, are further images from the same photographer who took the cover shot. The 4 prints are 12" square prints of some of the same photos. Stencil is the 'skull with wings' image and MOGWAI underneath. Demos 12" is packaged in a dark blue 'demo' version of the sleeve i.e. band logo but no photos.
A couple of queries: I was hoping the boxset might come with a download code, as happened with Special Moves. Particularly for the demos 12". No evidence of one in my box - did anyone else get one?
And, having unsealed the box, I'm struggling to get it to stay closed once I've put everything back inside.

Got my boxset today aswell, the prints are very nice indeed. I didn't have a download code either rob, so I assume no downloads for the demos, which would be nice.

Yeah, Rob, i had to take the cd out to re-close the box. Ho hum. A nice set though. No codes in there for me either. Were they ever mentioned when pre-orders were being taken?

Annoyed about this delay! I was looking forward to tomorrow. Are all the amazon orders effected?

I got the despatch email from the Mogwai shop a few days ago but not arrived yet. I also preordered a couple of the £8.99 amazon mispriced boxsets but I recently got an email saying they were delayed probably arriving 23rd - 25th February. It's good that those that ordered from Sandbag are being prioritised.

No boxset for me today.
Didn't the pre-orders from Sandbag include guaranteed delivery for today or did I imagine that?

And, having unsealed the box, I'm struggling to get it to stay closed once I've put everything back inside. Mine arrived today, and I've found the same niggle. No matter. This is a much more pleasing set than "Special Moves". The book-style CD digipack and the gatefold cover for the double LP are superb. I've got a few days off this week, so will absorb the album for sure.

Mexican Grand Prix has grown on me very quickly - White Noise, MGP, Rano Pano is a wonderful opening trio. I like Letters to the Metro a lot, as well as You're Lionel Richie. On the whole a lot more enjoyable at first listen than either of the last couple of albums - though Hawk was certainly a grower. Anyone else got any thoughts on Music for a Forgotten Future? I think I like it, though it never really goes anywhere. I wish it would really kick in after about 11 minutes.

Given that it was recorded for an exhibition, there's not much chance it was going to really kick in - imagine being stood in front of a big mound of earth somewhere in the German countryside and suddenly this wall of noise erupts

Ordered from the Mogwai.co.uk route, and today I recieved a red delivery card dated yesterday from Royal Mail, which I expected really because they often don't deliver larger items round here where it's all flats. Having said that a friend who lives on the other side of the street did get his delivered today. I shall go and collect mine tomorrow, can't wait!

Just got mine in the 'States. As a Graphic Designer, I look forward to see how packaging is executed on these things. I think this is my favorite Mogwai packaging yet. The box is done very nicely.

Hey guys. Been a stranger for a while but I always pop in when a major release or tour comes in. After Hawk, whih I considered to be easily the best album the band had done since Rock Action, I was a little disappointed by my first nasty illegal Mp3 rip listen of the new record but I must say since the heavy beautiful vinyl copy was passed to me on Sat I have changed my mind completely. Great record. Looking forward to gigs on Thurs in Bournemouth and week on Fri in Brixton. Anyone going to those? Come on the Gwai.
btw - not heard this extra track - not on the vinyl obv. but I see its on Spotify so I'll give it a listen. Ho hum.

Unusually I heard the majority of the album live before the released album. Some of the live versions were excellent and benefitted from blisteringly loud and distorted to bizarre levels of distortion.
I really like the album but think San Pedro is like a straight rock backing track lacking a vocal. Not for me I'm afraid. I also am not daft for Lionel Ritchie - yet. Are people looking for something that isn't there?
The album is a progression for Mogwai and possibly their most accessible album for mainstream music fans yet. It reminds me of David Holmes band project a wee bit.
Can't wait for Edinburgh to hear it again live and blisteringly loud!

Reading this thread, I think the beauty of this album, and Mogwai in general, is that the albums are so complete that every person gets a different experience of the album. I personally have deleted GSTDP from my playlist because of my severe dislike of it, and i'm bordering on doing the same with Mexican Gran Prix.
On the other hand, I absolutely love pretty much every other track on the album. White Noise is a superb opener, and Rano Pano is although a little boring after too many listens, a solid track. Death Rays, Letters to the Metro and San Pedro are all excellent (with letters being a potential top 10 track in my view).
How to Be a Werewolf is... unusual.. in that I actually prefer the shortened version used in the videio over the album version. It feels a lot stronger and the full track just not as good. Too Raging Cheers is a great tune which for some reason makes me think of Boards of Canada.
As for You're Lionel Ritchie: It is AWESOME. Sounds a lot like a Mogwai meets Tool track. It's kind of like the most beautiful moments from I Love You extended into a full track.
---------------- For non-album tracks i'm loving Slight Domestic and Hasenheide. In my view the album would have been a million times better if they were on it instead of Mexican and GSTDP. On the otehr hand, they are much less adventurous in terms of pushing the genre, so I can see why they were left off the main album. The Singing Mountain is a nice piece of background music for my time at work. I hadn't realized that the Burning DVD had a cohesive backing track to it.
