yes i have got the bootlegged copy. I'm not too ashamed of it, I guarentee you i'll be out on 7th of march to get the album. I just cannot wait that long, especially since i'll be trying to tab it early Ok. Glasgow megasnake, Travel is dangerous, two of my favourite songs on the entire album absolute stunners. Cant find We're no here so i dont know about that. And like it was mentioned in the other thread im pretty certain the mp3 of friend of the night is corrupt because you can sort of hear that it could be a great song, but its very jittery like the CD is scratched, however if thats actually what the songs like i'll be mad . Reminds me of a return to CODY in some ways, especially the song writing.

I'm with you. So far Glasgow Mega-Snake and Travel is Dangerous are my favorite tracks. Auto Rock is one of, if not the best, opening Mogwai tracks on an album. I Choose Horses is decent, but I was expecting a more typical screaming vocal from Tetsuya Fukagawa, judging from his usual stuff with Envy.
But overall... damn. Mogwai has done it again.
And yes, I'll be there when the local record store opens in downtown Chicago to buy this on March 7th.

I'm actually really not interested. I adore Mogwai as much as the next person I assure you but I want to hear the record as it is supposed to be heard. Above you write about 'dodgy' sounding versions of tracks - don't want to hear that. I'll wait till the ICA gigs and then then the proper release.

overall, if you HAD to compare it to one of their albums, what would it be?

i'd have to say its a much more melodic and confident Happy Songs for Happy People. It's sort of like if Mogwai was like "man, Golden Porsche is amazing, let's build off that!" Unlike a lot of people in this forum i thoroughly enjoyed HSFHP and praised mogwai for making a shorter album rather than their drawn out mega epics (ie Young Team). Mr. Beast is all relatively short, no songs go over the six minute mark and many of them stay within three to four minutes. It totally rocks out at certain points, though the main draw of this album are the fact that mogwai is able to keep you enraptured in their music for such a short amount of time. Maybe I'm a bit premature in saying this but i find this album to be their most accessible and better efforts.

I'm guessing its not what the songs ment to be like since the front page says its a corrupted version

'Acid Rock' is the one that sneaks up on you while you're having your face blown off by 'Glasgow Mega-Snake' and 'Travel Is Dangerous'. it's like 'Cody' for the Happy Songs era. pedal steel!

"auto rock" = best opening to an album, ever.

My comments on the album after a couple of listens: "guitarist/vocalist stuart braithwaite explains the album's impetus thus: "we consciously tried to have some louder music on this album" Really? Where is it? There are a couple of loud ones but no more than any other Mogwai album. Mostly its full of songs you know they arent going to play again after this tour. That being said, so far I quite like it. Here's my song-by-song review: Auto Rock - Wow! This is far and away the best song on the album thus far. It picks up where 'i know you are but what am i' leaves off, and really bests it in every way. Glasgow Megasnake - Hmm. Dont get me wrong, its a nice piece of metal-sludge fun, but I think its a little bit forgettable. I'm sure this will turn into a great live song, though. The ending always makes me laugh. Acid Food - Mogwai with a lap steel guitar? Never expected to hear that. Cool little song. Travel Is Dangerous - since I've been listening to this one longer (since the french radio stream) and I'm really liking it. At first I didnt like how the 'loud' parts were so short, but now I think its perfect. Team Handed - I must say, after Acid Food/Travel is Dangerous, I felt like this one needed vocals as well. The melody isnt strong enough by itself. Maybe it will grow on me in subsequent listens though. Friend of the Night - sounds like it might be good, at any rate Emergency Trap - pleasant filler. Folk Death 95 - classic killer Mogwai. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it comes at a perfect time on the album. I Chose Horses - are those monks chanting really low in the mix? Its hard to tell. I think this song is going to be one of my favorites, but it will take a few more listens. I like the spoken word combined with the hints of vocoder backup 'vocals'. Overall, I dont think its quite as good as HSFHP, and there doesnt seem to be a killer epic song ala Ratts, 2 Rights, etc (unless Were No Here is it), but its definitely a solid, solid album.

i think it's their best since Young Team. it might take a couple mores to see if it's actually better, but its definitely an amazing album Mogwai were born to play. the album has the overall Happy Songs feel to it, with the exception of the great Folk Death 95, which seems like a b-side off of C.O.D.Y.
great album.

I think it's definitely got a "Happy Songs" feel to it. It's a more 'mellow' Mogwai, but there's still the elements of pure 'gwai loud-ass bliss.
One thing I noticed, and find odd, is that both this early leak, and the early leak of Broken Social Scene's most recent album were both missing the last track. "Mr. Beast" is also missing a decently ripped copy of 'Friend of the Night' too, but it's strange that 2 recently leaked, big-time indie rock artist's albums were missing the last track. Is this a trend of some sorts?

I dont know how rocky, ian or rob feel about using the forum as a place to get the bootleg from each other, they've already said they dont want links to it on the forum so maybe asking for them or offering them isnt such a good idea until they clarify?
