The setlist for the St Petersburg show last night was the 15 most played songs so far this year. I can't recall this happening before, there's usually at least one track from further down the list. It's been noticeable (and understandable) that as the European tour has gone on, the pool of songs being played has gradually decreased.
I really don't envy them a two week break, five weeks in North America and then an immediate dive into the European festival circuit. Thankfully they seem to have the whole of June off.

It's good to see that 8 tracks from the new album are still in that top 15. It'll be interesting to se how the setlists develop over the North American dates.

I'm not really sure where else to put this, so I'll ask it here:
Does anyone know if Mogwai are coming to Queensland, Australia for the music festival "Splendour in the Grass"? They're listed as coming on the official website for the festival, but not on the official Mogwai site (no Australian tours at all slated for them this year... sob) or the gig listing for this site. It's making me worried.
The festival tickets are really expensive -- $400 -- and I really don't want to fork out that money only to be told that Mogwai are not, in fact, playing there. I would be gutted. :/ Anyone know what the deal is? Any help at all would be appreciated.

They're on the confirmed list, so barring some unforseeable event they should be there. I'm sure I've seen mention in an interview somewhere that further Australian dates won't happen until early 2012? The Splendour announcement makes it pretty clear that it's the only Australian date for now.

I'm just glad Death Rays seems to have stuck in the regular rotation. It'd be nice if they played Too Raging To Cheers again though!

Just got out of Montreal. Really good show, all things considered. A commendable performance by James on the drums. Clearly a bit nervous, and being coached on cues throughout, he played very well and had clearly done his homework. A few little misses here and there, and a gaffe at the start of Thatcher, but it was smiles all around, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Crowd was a bit noisy after the loud parts, but very appreciative and gracious toward the band. I'm pretty sure the song order is right, but please correct me otherwise.

We have an audio recording of the whole set plus video of the encore. Probably not the best recordings you'll ever hear, but I'll make it available to whoever wants it - after another 21 hour train ride home *oi*

Opening act was local yes. USA out of Vietnam was the name, I believe. Kind of doom metal. Fronted by local guitar hero/mainstay Jon Cummins - random coincidence, I know! They were kind of shite though. Well at least where we were, it was all sludge with no definition or tone. Meh, perhaps I was just miffed at missing Errors. Jon does have a massive amp setup, and plays a mean guitar nonetheless.
Mogwai went on around 9:15 and was off by 10:45 I believe.

So great! I thought that USA Out Of Vietnam were pretty great. They were loud and in your face. I mean I felt the kick drum in my chest all the way up in the balcony! I could have done without the vocals... they weren't really doing anything for me, but other then that they did their job and got me pumped for Mogwai (didn't need too much pumping to begin with, but - whatever). angiogram: I think you have Thatcher & Death Rays mixed up on your setlist... I'll cross reference with the recording later on tomorrow evening.

Instant Toronto review...
First the good - James is great. That might be the best version of I Know You Are.... I've ever heard. hasenheide is awesome live. Mexican Grand Prix is also surprisingly excellent live.
Now the not so great - Toronto setlist was pretty lazy. No need for Hunted and Friend and Helicon and MFS all in the same show! Howabout something that hasnt been played every single time you're here....

Well, it's true I have been fortunate enough to see them a bunch, but still - there are so many other great songs in the back catalog it's just unfortunate (to me) to have a quarter to a third of the show taken up by the same 3 or 4 songs every time out... Mostly I'm bummed we didn't hear Xmas steps or Glasgow megasnake

We only played 3 songs in total that we played the last time. SB

My order around that song may need confirmation. I do know that Thatcher was def in the encore, as I was keeping track of the songs as they came on my phone by that point. But again, I'm not 100% on the whole thing, so it will be good to get the definitive list from your recording. I'm looking forward to seeing the vids as well! Also, I know it's off topic, but I just wanted to say that I was beyond fortunate enough to see Mogwai and gy!be play on back to back nights this week. Still trying to process it all.....

You're completely right, your setlist was bang on, so - my bad. We just got back home a little while ago, so I'll have the vids up tomorrow for sure. The recording needs a little work to fix some levels, but I'll have it available for whoever would like it by Saturday. Just send me a PM with your info. I got some photos, not the best in quality, since I was sitting up in the balcony but I like them all the same. It was weird not being up front, but it did sound amazing from up there. Such a great show! Hope everyone else has a great time seeing them in North America over the next little bit!

No errors last night in detroit either. Damn gas prices going through the roof made this a $100 show for me but it was worth it. They didn't play any of what I consider the "big 3" mogwai songs (MFS, helicon, MFMK) but I enjoyed everything they did play and the sound was great. Sorry I'm awful with titles so I can't help with a setlist.
EDIT: They did play glasgow megasnake though! I didn't realize that was showing up so infrequently this tour. VERY happy I got to hear that live.

Sorry Vancouver fans. Looks like you are missing Mogwai on this tour. Hopefully their visa issues are sorted out for the fall.
