No GMS at Bexhill ?

|
|
Post by sim72 on Jul 25, 2011 0:30:28 GMT 1
Nope, no GMS. I'll probably be proved wrong about this, but I think the band plays either Batcat or GMS if they play a "rock out" track at the end of the main set or encore - I bet there's not too many sets with both in.
Another thing from Bexhill - I really need to start wearing earplugs at Mogwai shows, especially if I'm going to be stupid enough to stand by the speakers...

Thank you. I was there, I was just a bit confused! This was due a) Fact that I am a bit of a complete newbie/virgin having only really properly got into Mogwai with Hardcore... despite the listening to and liking whatever tracks the husband had played me for the last 10+ years, b) The husband isn’t bothered about remembering the names of tunes, or trying to recall tracklists after gigs as I am for some reason
This seems like a nice forum so I hope I won't get shot to pieces for such a crime!
Was a v.special gig for me: got married at DLWP 10 years ago, so we made the trip down from Yorkshire especially :-)

Bexhill gig was great. Set was very Hardcore-heavy as you can see. The band seemed to be enjoying it (altho Barry was struggling at times cos he'd caught a very early flight from Berlin!) as they could say thank you in their own language and were playing to a crowd who'd come to see them rather than a crowd who were waiting for Skunk Anansie or somesuch). Crowd was mostly very good except someone shouted "C'mon Mogwai!" very loudly towards the end of the quiet bit of Xmas Steps and then someone else shouted "Shut Up" etc. Other than that it was OK (the bloke who got thrown out episode was odd, he appeared next to me during "Batcat" and seemed to be enjoying himself. But when the band went off him and his mate were chanting"Boring boring Mogwai" and kept shouting for Sweet Leaf! A chap the other side of me got annoyed and didn't understand why they were shouting for a Black Sabbath song which was pretty silly of him and he asked them to be quiet and they didn't so he thumped one of them and then security came over and the noisy blokes got thrown out and the thumper didn't. Thing is, the band weren't actually playing and I'm sure they were just joking but never mind). Anyway, it was great to hear MFMK I haven't heard them do that since 2003 and even better they finished with a good ol' slice of Mogwai noise with stuart putting his guitar on the PA stack and he and John working the pedals, Barry jamming a couple of keys down with plectrums, etc. Great end to a great show. Managed to blag some passes and got to speak to the band afterwards. All in very good moods, generous with the rider and the coat hanger sculpture had got even bigger!

Australian fans - apparently Stuart said Mogwai would be back in Australia in November from the stage at Splendour In The Grass on Friday. Rumour has it they're playing the touring Harvest Festival www.harvestfestival.com.au/Saturday November 12 - Harvest Presents “The Gathering”, Melbourne, Werribee Park Sunday November 13 - Harvest, Sydney, Parramatta Park Saturday November 19 - Harvest, Brisbane, Botanical Gardens This ties in perfectly with their announced autumn schedule, and hopefully there will be some side shows between the Sydney and Brisbane dates - maybe even a visit to New Zealand?!

I'm always on a bit of a high after a great concert and just want to do it AGAIN, NOW! but will have to wait for the winter. Will be something to beat the midwinter blues and if they do do some other UK dates, will be there. Waiting to see what an Australian friend from another forum made of her first Mogwai experience: the forum rallied round and voted for her on a facebook competition for tickets to Splendour in the Grass. She's only 18 and shown herself to be wonderfully open-eared

So no further dates to be added to the US tour then? Stuart mentions that Mogwai may be going to China between ATP and Mexico City at the end of this interview:

Also terrible is that I booked my trip to Japan for Sept/October before they announced the dates there. Seeing them there would be........ cool. But, I won't insult anyone from areas that they rarely play by complaining too much.

Ryan/Rob/Stuart (if reading) Would it not make sense that Mogwai tour China inbetween Tokyo and Bangkok? Otherwise, I am happy to travel to one/both- Fridays, so good for holidays. Stuart (if reading)- Get in touch if you are coming to Shanghai. You are probably sized for Mao Livehouse, but the sound can be shit and many people consider the manager to be a wanker. Plus, the beer policy is expensive and not user-friendly. Much better would be Yuyintang; though the potential to overcrowd would exist. These guys are my mates: site.douban.com/battlecattle/ ; the intro by Kenny is myself and very amusing..... These guys have a tiny Chinese girl who has the mannerisms of Ian Curtis- natural and not intentional site.douban.com/bcr/These guys also recommended: site.douban.com/androsaceApologies if the links do not work; have had to write manually as cannot cut & paste. Any update on China will be very welcome; plus, I can probably help with visas.... Cheers SD

no sideshows in australia next month? You'd have thought they'd have been announced by now. Unless they're holding off because Harvest Festival ticket sales are sluggish?
