I read it in this email I got this morning: Hi,
Apologies for the group email but it seemed like the quickest, most effective way of reaching out to you and bringing you up to speed with the Mogwai box set and the current status of its delivery. Cutting to the chase, I should tell you straight that it's going to arrive later than we had initailly anticipated and for that I can only apologise and offer you an explanation as to why it's happened.
You'll probably be aware that we get sent test pressings of every vinyl LP we plan on manufacturing and that those test pressings need to be approved before the LP (or LPs in this case) can go into mass production. We had an issue with one of the test pressings which just didn't sound 100% and - after soliciting second and third opinions from various sets of trusted ears - we opted to send it back to the plant and ask them to press it again to reduce surface noise. We did this knowing that it would result in a delay for the final delivery date of the boxset but felt it was far more important this reissue was late and as close to perfect as we could make it, rather than on time but sonically below par. Hopefully that's the approach you would have expected from us too.
So, how late is it going to be? Well, we had to wait and approve the new test pressings before we could confirm a definitive completion date from the pressing plant. Having received word now, we've set an official retail release date of July 21st but that date reflects warehouse processing leadtimes and is when we would expect the boxsets to be on retail shelves, not when we'll have stock in the office which will be a fortnight earlier (give or take). We expect to deliver all the pre-ordered boxsets (ie yours) at the same time we'll be shipping the retail stock into warehouses etc. and predict that'll be on or around July 10th at the latest. We understand this represents a potential delay in excess of three weeks and can only offer our apologies and assurances that the delay's been incurred with our best intentions. The position hasn't been helped of course by vinyl's continuing rise in popularity (the volume being pressed in mainland Europe doesn't seem to have abated since Record Store Day).
Ultimately, this is not an inexpensive item for you to have ordered and we're all too aware that this delay involves a widening of the gap between paying for it and receiving it: if you'd prefer us to refund your order (even in the short term) then we'll be happy to oblige, just drop us a line at shop@chemikal.co.uk and we'll sort that for you asap. Again, our sincere apologies. We hope your disappointment at the delayed arrival of the boxset is eased by our determination to ensure it's worth every penny or cent you've generously invested.
On behalf of everyone at Chemikal Underground,
Stewart

Thanks - that hasn't reached me yet - presumably that email is heading for everyone who pre-ordered at some stage.

I'm guessing the email was sent to those on the Chemikal Underground mailing list in general, rather than just those who have made a pre-order.

Sent from my GT-I9195 using proboards I don't think that's right. I am not on any chemical underground mailing list, I have never bought anything from their website except the boxset. I think it's definitely specific to that. But odd that it hasn't been sent to everyone.

Nothing yet. Wasn't expecting it until next week at the earliest, to be honest.

I've seen several mail-orders quoting 21st July as the release date.

I've also seen the date of July 21st. Listening to the stream now and I'm liking what I'm hearing....

My bad. The email said something in reference to the 10th as well as the 21st. At any rate, getting anxious... The stream has proven the bonus disc to be a worthy acquisition.

I see a web release is available for download on what.cd seems a little early for a web release leak. thought there might have been a normal cd rip leak earlier however.

my boxset has just turned up on my desk, from Chemikal Underground. packaged in a card mailer, double wrapped in bubble wrap, in a post bag. this wasn't getting damaged!
DVD has the main album in 320 kbs mp3, m4a & WAV, and the appendix in the same formats but 24bit for the lossless ones.
This whole thing looks very lovely, the printing is excellent. Can't wait to get home and listen to it.

Sounds like lots to look forward to. Received the CD last week and have been obsessed with the beauty of Spoon Test - yes I know it morphs elsewhere on CODY - but it's still a fantastic standalone tune in its own right. Can't wait for the vinyl to land or for KOKO next Tuesday.

so does the dvd contain the full boxset contents in digital format? So the boxset-only songs are also there?

so does the dvd contain the full boxset contents in digital format? So the boxset-only songs are also there? There are six folders on the DVD: CODY mp3 [320k] CODY lossless m4a CODY wav 16bit CODY Appendix mp3 [320k] CODY Appendix lossless m4a CODY Appendix wav 24bit The last 3 of these have 17 tracks, including the two boxset exclusives. A hearty round of applause from me for this, it's as complete a package as I could have wished for.

Got my copy of the vinyl box set today. Fantastic looking thing. Pleased that the original and appendix records are in separate gatefold covers. Will play these all weekend, and the disc of files too.

I haven't received my boxset yet, but been listening to the songs for a week or so (sans the boxset-only ones) and I think this is a truly fantastic collection of songs. There's a few of the demos I hadn't heard before which are truly great, and the ones that I had before, it's nice to hear them in pristine quality.
I've also started making comparisons to the album, and my conclusion is that I feel that the versions of ex-cowboy and cody are superior to those on the album. Ex-cowboy just leaps out at me in ways the album version never did. The album version is fantastic, but the cava recording steps it up to a whole new level. Cody has always been one of my favourites, but I'm liking the more simple straightforward production - the fact that it isn't drums on one channel, vocals on another is a refreshing change, and lets me focus more on the song as a whole, and not how it's been produced.

Love the Helps Both Ways Madden version. Hate to think how much the NFL must have stung them for an authorised release.
(for the trainspotters amongst us, the game is the 1997 NFC Championship game between the Green Packers and the San Francisco 49ers).
